I can't believe I'm willing to discuss religion on FJ specially since I have a test tomorrow.
I'm not here to say you are all wrong, just to show you my point of view (christian, btw).
I just think god want us to live, not to suffer, nor to have a perfect life, but to have a free life. If there were no troubles would the good times be that good? I don't know but I like to believe our life is simply meant to be lived. I've put a lot of thought in this and concluded that's pretty much what every one of us would do if we were god, create a world we would just watch.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure I've read that after some years after the end of the world, God will take everyone to heaven, at least that's what I like to believe.

this isn't bashing its pointing out he flaws within the christian doctrine. Its educating, he isn't taking shots at anyone. Why is it that christians can openly talk about assaulting atheists and yelling in there faces that they are sinners that are going to hell and need to get the fuck out of this country, yet if an atheist points out a flaw in religion they swarmed by others for shoving there beliefs down peoples throat and trying to persecute christians.

I say both sides are wrong, and completely against whatever they're standing for. They're hypocrites, every last one of them, Atheist or no.

What I'm saying, that content is making fun of Christianity. It's blatantly laughing at what they believe, while at the same hardly grasping what it is they exactly believe.

i agree that there are right and wrong ways to go about things, and making fun of someone's beliefs whatever it be ( christian, islamic, atheist). But regardless people have the right to say these kinds of things and everyone need to accept that and have enough faith in there faith to take it stride. I was just pointing out how often christians are praised for standing up to there beliefs and insulting any other religion yet if an atheist stands up for there lack of faith or point out a flaw in a religion they get crucified for being intolerant and bashing other peoples beliefs. I have no problem with religion as long as people do not use it to oppress and persecute others or using religion to justify abhorrent actions.
Yet unfortunately that happens far to often and has become common place in the US today.

No, sin is the absence of god. Also, the bible should NEVER be interpeted literally. Joseph Cambel talked about the serpent in genesis. If I remember correctly, a part of the reason that the serpent exists in genesis is because the israelites were waring with a people who considered the snake holy. Again, that's part of it. Read the power of myth, and you'll begin to see mythology as more than silly stories.

Atheism is actually just non religious. They may not have the same theory as to how everything came to be, but aren't gullible enough to believe a wizard did it.

No, it isn't. Making fun of religion itself, in good humor, is occasionally funny. Bashing a single religion in an overused joke isn't funny anymore. It's annoying. I hate it when any belief or topic is bashed without attempting to do any wrong.
