That wasn't the point of my comment at all. It was that not every religious person is a mutton, and not every atheist is a logical and reasonable genius. Name me one thing atheism has done for the good of humanity.

THAT we can agree on.
less relegion

It has given people hope when they despair. It has given them faith when they have struggled, and has given them peace when they have fear. Other than the fact that the rule of law in all countries is based on the Ten Commandments and that without any Christianity you would have women in burqas as slaves to the men. Most advancements in the world were accomplished when people sought religious freedom away from the corruption and perversion of other religions.
Now people who were Christian
Antiseptic surgery, Joseph Lister
Bacteriology, Louis Pasteur
Calculus, Isaac Newton
Celestial Mechanics, Johannes Kepler
Chemistry, Robert Boyle
Comparative Anatomy, Georges Cuvier
Computer Science, Charles Babbage
Dimensional Analysis, Lord Rayleigh
Dynamics, Isaac Newton
Electronics, John Ambrose Fleming
Electrodynamics, James Clerk Maxwell
Electromagnetics, Michael Faraday
Energetics, Lord Kelvin
Etomology of Living Insects, Henri Fabre
Field Theory, Michael Faraday
Fluid Mechanics, George Stokes
Galactic Astronomy, Sir William Herschel
Gas Dynamics, Robert Boyle
Genetics, George Mendel
Glacial Geology, Louis Agassiz
Gynecology, James Simpson.
Thats more than one right??

That's the problem I have with it. This is going to your very first statement, before you started listing names. It's almost like a fall back plan for people sometimes. "My aunt has cancer, instead of facing reality and spending all the time with her I can before she passes, I'm just going to sit here in the church and pray day and night." .-. Granted, that's an extreme example, but I'm sure you see where I'm going with this. I have nothing against religious people, religion itself is a whole 'nother story.

im just saying people like Josh Hamilton have turned to God during hard times, look at him. I see what your saying

i think you are the one that is retarded, i asked something relegion has done, not what a relegious man have done. relegion did hold back sience for centuries. and lets see what else relegous people have done when you bring up the few good things they have done. the crusades? the ''witch'' burnings and so on
#59 to #54 - seminoleball (05/27/2012) [-]
You are retarded, read the first couple of sentences It has given people hope when they despair. What about atheism what have they done for us. They gave us Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao Zedong. Maybe you should shut the **** up about bashing religions
#61 to #59 - thefunnylaughter (05/27/2012) [-]
anything that relegion have ''teached'' us we have learned and enforced by ourself. and no thta with the women thing is just ******** , you dont think about other relegions like the norse. but without relegion we would most likely be almost a hundred years more advanced if not more.

and im not bashing im just pointing out facts and opinions

I'm guessing you're referring to the Dark Ages. The erroneous propaganda that proposes that scientific advancement was held back by Christian thought.

The dark ages were not dark but a time of great advancement in nearly every field. "And in certain other area, the Christian world was always well ahead of the Islamic, even during the so-called Dark Ages, most particularly in the realm of technological innovation. In architecture, engineering, machinery, agronomy, and the exploitation of new sources of power, the Middle Ages were marked by periods of invention far more prolonged, creative, and diverse than any known to Hellenistic, Roman or Islamic culture" (Atheist Delusions, 72-73). The advances of medieval technology exceed previous eras in scope and variety as the studies by Lynn White Jr. (Medieval Technology and Social Change), Jean Gimpel (The Medieval Machine: The Industrial Revolution of the Middle Ages), and Joseph and Francis Gies (Cathedral, Forge and Waterwheel: Invention in the Middle Ages) have shown. Hardly being the dark ages, things like the magnetic compass, the iron forge, flying buttresses, windmills, water pumps, the printing press, and gun powder were discovered and/or advanced during the "superstitious" and "repressive" time. Christian contributed to these advances. For example it was in Cistercian monasteries of the twelfth century we find more sophisticated use of gears in windmills and the use of water power to process grain and even drive hammers on camshafts for to mechanize various jobs (Atheist Delusions, p73).

i must say i like the fact that you are reffering to a site that reminds me of a Christian propoganda site. so should i start visiting atheist propoganda and post that ?

I was hoping we could have a reasonable conversation, but I can tell from your comment that isn't going to happen. I'm not going to waste anymore of my time on a worthless mind like you.
User avatar #84 to #81 - thefunnylaughter (05/27/2012) [-]
worthless? how come? because i dont believe in god? and one last thing: you mantioned that they build cathedrals and such, you do realise that people were starving right? so the curch built more curches instead of feeding people, that sounds smart

oh and i agree with you this is a uselss discussion since you dont understand logic
User avatar #90 to #84 - frenchiefrenchy (05/27/2012) [-]
This was during the Great Famine idiot. As in there wasn't enough food.
I do not think your mind is worthless because you don't believe in God. I think your mind is worthless because you refuse to recognize a standing fact. There were loads of technological advancements during the so called "Dark Ages."
There are archaeological findings in Europe that back up this fact.

Greeks, civilized people gave the world democracy, science, and many other things. They were religious
#77 to #74 - thefunnylaughter (05/27/2012) [-]
but...but...WHYYY??? so what if they were relegious that have nothing to do with my point. my point is that if you believe in god you are naive. and that relegion itself never have done any good people would do just as well if not better without it
#128 to #77 - seminoleball (05/28/2012) [-]
So what your saying is that people are stupid for believing in God or religion in general. Even if God doesnt exist people have used religion as a reason to live their life or help others or do whatever. People have turned to religion when times are tough or even on the verge of commiting suicide. Many people are examples of this. I like to use Josh Hamilton, once a heavy drug user and on the end of death he turned to God and it helped him turn his life around to becoming one of the best players in baseball. So ur saying religion hasn't helped anybody, man you need to stop being ignorant and shut up
User avatar #129 to #128 - thefunnylaughter (05/30/2012) [-]

User avatar #133 to #132 - thefunnylaughter (06/01/2012) [-]
you call me ignorant for not believing in god?

that is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. because you give me no evidence to support that relegion is right
#134 to #133 - seminoleball (06/05/2012) [-]
im not calling you ignorant for not believing in God, u asked what has religion ever done for the world. I presented you tons of facts which you still refuse to believe

#49 to #48 - thomasdb (05/26/2012) [-]
I'm telling you all religion has ever been good for is controlling "stupid" people. I'm not supporting it in any way, it's just kind of funny how gullible some people are.
User avatar #50 to #49 - thefunnylaughter (05/26/2012) [-]
you are right, but is that a good thing?
#51 to #50 - thomasdb (05/26/2012) [-]
If by good thing you mean creating a better society than no, but I mean it really has only one use.
User avatar #52 to #51 - thefunnylaughter (05/26/2012) [-]
