Yeah, and then we get someone like Hitler.

Children are raised by morals and taught to be good and kind. Children aren't good from the start, they're selfish! Seriously, all small children care about are themselves! "I want that! And that! AND that!!!" They hit their parents when they're angry, the barf after they eat and do what ever they feel like. Why don't they when they're older? Cause we raised them to believe in certain morals of being good to others!

They should be raised to understand right from wrong and to be kind to each other, but not to do so in fear of being sent to a flaming eternity with demons and bad people by an imaginary wizard who loves them but will punish them if they don't telepathically tell him they love him and spend a good portion of their lives worshiping him and trying to convert/influence other people's lives with their own beliefs. Doing things like getting into politics because of not wanting anyone to have abortions or be gay because it's against god's will. And then to just contradict the whole idea of being a good person but only when it benefits them as they've seen their parents do countless times, like flipping someone off in traffic or cursing someone out, or getting into physical fights with people over non life or death situations, to ignore the homeless because "you can't help everyone", or cheering for the death of people like Osama bin ladin when the bible tells people to forgive their enemies and to not seek revenge.

He also killed the guy who killed Hitler, which was pretty heroic and cool, I remember his last words,
"Chief, send me out.... with a bang" And so I banged him.

But he also killed the guy who killed Hitler, so that makes him even worse

That was his only flaw...

It's a little more complicated than that...but I find one's beliefs are strongest when it stems from one's own experiences rather than what parents or priests teaches.

tl;dr you made several broad generalisations so your argument shouldn't even be considered. No offence.

You have a point, but I still don't see how it's wrong to raise your children to follow a Religion, a political belief, as long as it's not violent or enforced.

There isn't, however you merged Morals and Religion together as one, they're two separate ideas that have similarities, and you assumed ALL children are born bad.

In my opinion raising a child to believe in one thing isn't wrong, but I wouldn't do it because as things change, it helps to be open minded. I would want my child to understand religion, not follow it. Then once you understand something you can formulate your own unique stance on an issue.

Well on that I agree with you. But raising a child to follow one Religion doesn't mean the child can't be open minded. I know lots of open minded Christians who got raised to be Christian, but only have a belief in a God and a life after death, other than that, they don't get into it that much.

So, you think we should shove our children through the same mold our parents forced us into? How about a big bowl of go **** yourself with a heaping side of sit the **** down and shut up. Yes, we should discipline our children, but people can develop good morals on their own, as well as bad morals. Hitler was raised strictly, yet neither of his parents were anti-semetic in any way. He developed his hatred through outside life, not his parents. You'll probably end up raising future members of the WBC or your religious/nonreligious equivalent.

I just saying that raising children to believe in something doesn't make them bad or anything. Sure, if you force them to believe it, then its wrong, but people also raise their children to which party they shall vote for. For instance, my mother raised me to be a socialist. Is that wrong?
User avatar #276 to #272 - heartlessrobot ONLINE (10/21/2012) [-]
Well, I don't favor any political party, so all I have to say is she could have shown you both sides.
User avatar #280 to #276 - finni (10/21/2012) [-]
But she didn't. I chose for my self, but I don't mind her raising me that way. She did what she thought was right, but I disagreed in the end.

People get affected by many things parents, friends, teachers, other adults, movies. In a country like America, many of them might have affected the child to become more Religious, while in secular country in Europe they'd be more affected to be Atheists or Agnostic.

Its not just the parents who are a part of the socialising of a child.
