Just like there are a lot of nice athiests too. Its the nasty ones that give them a bad rap.

To be honest though, most of my experiences with athiests have been bad.

The ones who are often offensive are often less informed. Those who are less informed are often loud. The ones who are loud, are often seen more. The ones who are seen more represent the group.

The ones who represent the group unfortunately patronize and encourage the quiet to be offensive and uninformed.

yes sir, i know that feeling all too well, my area isn't too conservative, but people still have a fairly common tendency to come at me out of nowhere while i'm minding my own business, practically going "so do you believe in jebus, huh, huh, do ya, do ya, well, DOYADOYA" and the look on their face is rather amusing when i say, yes, i do believe in jesus, i don't believe in the bible, and i am not a christian. blows their freaking minds
they demand moar, and i tell them they aren't a christian either, and proceed to ask them questions such as, what are your opinions on universal healthcare, almost invariably opposed, then when i point out jesus spent most of his time healing the sick for free, they pause briefly before launching into some other nonsense rant. it's kinda funny to watch the wheels in their head try to turn, but they are just so rusted in place that the moment you almost force a thought out of them, they want to change the subject.

personally i consider myself closer to Buddhists and atheists, but there is no label for my beliefs because they are my own, based on my own observations and logical reasoning, i arrived at my beliefs through conscious thought, they are rather complex as they incorporate all the information i have gathered by studying deeply in the subjects of both science and religion
