4 things:
1.) The bible never straightout said "yay slavery" it was arrogance and the interpretation. The "White Man's Burden" sort of, if you will.
2.) Way to go to the Old Testement. Reason why it's called Old.
3.) I'm tired off all these religious posts, mainly from athiests.
4.) From one athiest to another; shut up, no one cares, get over yourself, move on with your life

1) You're basically saying it's arrogance and a misinterpretation without any justification?
2) So, the omnibenevolence of God is inconsistent? Is God not an enlightened being?
3) Biased opinion.
4) Biased opinion.

There is the matter that not most of religious figures stood against slavery, but most of the religious figures stood (and are staying) against homosexuality.
Then again, they are "white men" misinterpreting the holy teachings of god...

Except the part which condemns gays also comes from the "Old" Testament. But that part doesn't get dismissed so easily.

Until Christianity, and indeed all religions stop causing so many people to die for no good reason, I think these should continue.
#169 to #156 - zlamous (02/04/2013) [-]
Yeah because atheism has such a good track record. dumbass
User avatar #296 to #169 - jallious (02/04/2013) [-]
Oh please. You post the pictures of a few individuals and say you've won the argument. If I cared enough to make a montage of the 100 people who lead to the deaths of the most people in human history, that would be 100 Theists. Don't even go there and deny that.

I don't know why I'm even responding. You won't care enough to think you're the wrong one anyway..

I'll deny it. Prove it mang.

all of them had hair.

KILL IN THE NAME OF HAIR
User avatar #192 to #191 - zlamous (02/04/2013) [-]
so crimes by Christians means that Christianity is bad, but crimes by atheists doesn't mean that atheism is bad? nice double standard.
User avatar #193 to #192 - swiftykidd (02/04/2013) [-]
When christians or any religion kill and say "FOR THE BIBLE, or FOR GOD or anything like that then yes it is bad. When athiests say "FOR OUR NOT BELIEVING IN A DEITY" then they will also be bad.

Actually, in the Soviet Union priests, nuns and religious staff were executed and churches burned down. They in fact killed for their "non-religion".

atheism was part of stalin's worldview. why couldnt it have been a motivator for his acts?
#290 to #197 - N. Korean citizen (02/04/2013) [-]
It could, but that doesn't mean you can say the same for other atheists. I'm an atheist, so was Stalin, but there is nothing that connects me to him. (The lack of belief is not a connection, just as NOT collecting stamps is no connection to other people that don't collect stamps)

To make this example a little easier to understand: Any Religious war was waged in the name of god. The same god that every christian believes in to this day. (And it even says in the bible that waging wars in gods name is a good thing, in some cases - and even encourages it) This a connection that just isn't there for atheism.

Theism is the choice to believe something. Atheism is just the lack of that believe theists chose to have. I don't know how i could explain this any further.

Except no Atheist ever killed in the name of anything. They just didn't believe in any deity whatsoever, that doesn't mean they can't be homicidal assholes. Religious leaders however usually kill in the name of their god, which tends to make it okay in their eyes and the eyes of their followers.

Just sayin'
User avatar #181 to #179 - zlamous (02/04/2013) [-]
Atheism was a part of their worldview. it motivated them just as much as their other ideologies.

Dammit, i didn't read your user name before responding. I'm so out of my league here. Just... let's pretend i didn't say anything, okay?
