"I don’t think they should be able to teach religion until you’re 18 years old, and you know what? It would be a whole different world. Because if they weren’t pushing that **** into your head while it was still soft, you’d never buy it, not for a minute. If you’d never heard about the Bible and none of your friends had ever heard about Christianity and you just found a Bible in a used book store, oh, you’d jump right on that, wouldn’t you? ‘Oh, this sounds so logical, yes! The cave, and the ark, an oh, yeah! Hey Donny, I think I found the meaning of life here.’ No! You’d ******* chuck it in the waste basket, you would." - Doug Stanhope, comedian

If religious debates created energy, we could harness it and power the world.

The post isn't saying it's impossible to become a christian without christian parents, it's talking about how religon can be forced on babies and that's perfectly acceptable, but people find the idea of forcing political views on babies to be absurd, when really they're the same thing.

What are you orlying about? Nobody cares.

Well, that's awfully funny considering that... wait a minute, that wasn't funny at all.

Well the reason Christianity was brought into the Roman Empire was beacuse the
rulers realized it's easier to control the crowds if they follow a certain belief, they never
cared about God or such things. That also happened with USA many many centuries
later, and it's obvious. It's just up to you to be smart enough and decide for yourself. I
myself am lucky to be in an enviroment where I'm able to choose who and what I want to be, even though my country has many problems. Still I'm a believer but don't
practice it that much, just believe. And the most important thing is that i don't push it
up anyone's nose. That's what any follower of any religion should be like.

The rules of Dungeons and Dragons state that a newborn child's alignment is always true neutral unless it is magically altered. It made a ton of sense when I read it

He is born a christian baby and is destined to be a christian because his PARENTS say so, until he decides he doesn't want to be a christian of course. He is taught the way of Christianity and accepts it while growing up therefore he is a christian. It's called parenting. also Political party ≠ Religion
also i'm not christian
also religion is belief just like people's moral standings, It is the parents duty to teach their beliefs to their children if they don't want the wrong people influencing them. This is the parents business not Richard Dawkins nor yours.

I am posting as anon because I will get thumbed down like redpet please feel free to reply

So? I don't think you'd be saying that if you have heard about indoctrination. When you indoctrinate a baby, they are to unintelligent (not sure if that is the term I should be using) to use critical thinking or even question there religion. After a while, the stories of the bible start to get implanted into their mind and makes it hard for them to "unbelieve" the stories, thus making the conversion to Atheism (if I should call it conversion) much more difficult. The child will still doubt and believe some of those stories even when he/she is older. The reason people say it shouldn't be taught until age 18 (I personally think 21 or 27, since 21 is the age your brain stops developing I think, and 27 is when the human is done maturing) is so they can choose do believe what seems right to them. As an Atheist myself, I personally think Christianity has complete udder ******** stories. I think Christianity should focus more so on their lords commands such as being nice and kind to each other, loving one another and what not and ignore those stories created by Men, not by God.

TL;DR? Babies can be easily indoctrinated where as adults cannot.

I love this, first you say that we are a blank slate. Then you say we have these morals instilled in us from birth. So which is it? You like to talk as if you have such an open mind, but people like you are the most close minded. Because people like me believe in God we are uneducated and our parents filled our heads with lies. I never told you to believe in God, maybe someone else did, I don't know. However you get to say that I am wrong and don't know what I'm talking about. Unfortunately your logic is as flawed as your argument. You're right that some people in religion like to tell people the're wrong and are going to hell. That's not all of us. Don't fall into the same trap that they did. Open your own mind for a minute and understand that everyone has the right to their own opinion, and you are not right solely based on your disbelief in God, just as those that persecute you were not right solely based on their belief in God.

I was baptized and sent to a Infant and Junior school. I just thought it was normal, only did I realize when I got to secondary school that other people went to normal schools.
I felt like I was basically brain washed. Awkward.
