Actually, in Norse mythology, Odin was the god and father of the other immortals, much like the Olympians, where Zeus was the god and father of the other immortals. The immortals where not gods in essence, they just couldn't die from old age (they could still be killed or wounded) and each was assigned with a task by the god (like raising the sun, bless the troops or hurl thunders and storms).

Not in the marvel universe though. In the marvel universe they are aliens who helped the Norse and myths were created about them.
