Honestly, there's no pattern. As long as what you make is entertaining and happens to fit the mood of the site at large, you'll do well. Also, boobs, anti-SJW and dindu nuffins are always popular.

I've visited this site damn near daily for the last several years. I was a regular when it was still vomit colored. I will probably never leave.

There doesnt' seem to be any sort of videos of that nature on youtube, to my knowledge, I've tried looking up digital painting how to guides, but it's only a bunch of people doing speed paints. You can't learn much from that, at least, I didn't.
