TBh the whole discussion about wether it's good or not is a bit flawed. The reason it's been the leading anime series and a popcultue icon is because it showed human on a much more reasonable way.
And personally i think the reason it' by many is considered boring or not interesting is because it's a big lack of fanservice. (Original series). You might call it entry level but it's one hell of an entry. The one and only thing they could improve is the size of the eva at different times. Sometimes they are 20m and other times they are 200
