I agree, every culture has it's faults, and Japan is no exception, but I hate hearing a lot of bad anime fans go on about how the Japanese culture is the perfect culture.

I personal hate their social culture, but I love their ability to adapt to technology, their food, their medical system (kinda), and their art.

These people are the worst... when they do it all the time its unbearable, I avoid them at school and even at conventions even though many otherwise "good kind of" people will spaz a bit at the cons too. I will admit that I will do mild forms of a couple of the things youd expect the bad ones to do at cons if Im really excited or fuckin around... but for fucks sake, do they not know manners or know how to be self aware and respectful. They make all of anime fans look bad.

I hate shitty translators that use honourifics in the subtitles. The only thing worse is when they don't translate simple words like "baka" and then just have a translator's note at the top for it once.

It was a bit overrated in my opinion, I'll admit the animation was fantastic, I've never seen anything to moved so fluidly and looked so good (hell, they even had lip syncing to what the characters actually said rather then the typical one shape mouth movement that just seems to randomly wave around like a dying fish) but if you haven't read the manga then the plot made almost no sense, and you should have to read the manga to understand the film, maybe if they made it into a show they'd be able to fit everything in but they tried to cram the manga (keep in mind I've never read it) in a measly two hours and thus it just ended as a jumbled mess.

I'd have to disagree. Bearing in mind Katusriho Otomo also wrote, directed and produced the movie, I thought it was a really good adaptation. Obviously he couldn't fit his whole manga into a movie (and a series would have been much better) but by switching around aspects of the story it worked out fine. It's meant to be an alternate version. You don't need to read the manga to understand it all, as the manga is much more in depth and features alot more characters. The movie isn't really crammed at all - if anything it felt a little shallow to me. The lack of characters like Miyako or Joker, or the fact Tetsuo's new Tokyo Empire wasn't featured at all disappointed me, but the movie was a great reshuffling of the story I found
