The Byakugan is actually the older brother of the Sharingan as it mentions in the series that the Sharingan was derived from a lesser branch family of the Hyuga clan. The Byakugan is also extremely powerful as it can detect Charka and any change in it in any direction in a set radius. It is more powerful than basic Sharingan which is the best that most Uchiha achieved and the Rinnegan was the rarest and most powerful eye jutsu so of course the Byakugan is not going to be as powerful.

I was able to find the panel you were referencing
<-----

The current theory is that the Hyūga Clan twisted the history by saying the sharingan is a mere mutation from their own byakugan. Since the Uchiha were considered "outcasts and savages" by senju/konoha during their whole existence, particularly during the war. It could also mean this story was made up to make the uchiha even more inferior to the other clans within Konoha.

Rumor is that the Naruto series will finally come to an end this year, so if it isn't left as an open/unexplained plot hole, maybe we'll find out for sure soon.

When the sage of the 6 paths (Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki) died, he split up his power among his two sons. Their names are never given, but one founded the Senju clan, and the other the Uchiha clan.

Senju clan ancestor:
He inherited the Sage's "body" — life force and physical energy — and believed that love was the key to peace. When the Sage was on his deathbed, he selected the younger brother to carry on his dreams of peace for the ninja world. The older brother, believing he should have been chosen, fought him to try and claim what he felt he deserved. The descendants of the elder brother, who would become the Uchiha clan, would continue this fight with the younger brother's descendants, who would become the Senju clan.

Uchiha clan ancestor:
He inherited the Sage's eyes, his powerful chakra and spiritual energy. He believed that force and strength were the key to peace. When the Sage was on his deathbed, he selected the younger brother to carry on his dream of establishing peace throughout the world. The older brother, angry and jealous that his father had not chosen him, fought his younger sibling to claim what he felt was rightfully his. The elder brother's descendants, who would become the Uchiha clan, would continue this fight with the younger brother's descendants, the Senju clan.

The byakugan is never mentioned nor is it's origin ever revealed (to date anyway). Presumably because it is considered to be both lesser in power and importance to the story.

Thank you for clarifying this for me, Alecbaldwinning.
I was certain they had said that somewhere and I forgot about the sage of the six parts bit.
But I have my own theory that the Uchiha's ancestors where the Hyuga clan and that the older brother was in fact a Hyuga, if I remember correctly it does not say what type of eyes the older brother inherited, so it could have been a much weaker form of the Rinnegan that became the Byakugan and then the Sharingan was later derived from that.

I personally doubt it because you need both Senju and Uchiha powers to even have a chance at developing the rinnegan; And because that was the whole reason the Uchiha ancestor started this feud with his brother, because he couldn't have both powers.

But like I said, I look forward to the story wrapping up questions like this soon.

I'm not gonna argue which came first but I'm gonna say that the Byakugan is, in general, far better than the Sharingan.

A Sharingan in it's basic form is used to observe the enemy and predict their movements before they happen. It is also used to quickly understand the use of their techniques. However as is shown by cases such as Neji a Byakugan user can completely cut off their opponent's ability to use Chakra (except in those extreme cases such as Jinchiriki). They are also almost impossible to sneak up on and will likely always be able to not only see through the sharingan's genjutsu, but also the Sharingan user would be unable to hide from the Byakugan user.

What is more, Byakugan's most powerful abilities are available as standard to every member of the Hyuuga clan whilst the Uchiha need to awaken their abilities in stages with most people being unable to attain Mangyeko and those who do only being able to use it so many times before going blind. The same with Izunagi/Izunami (i.e. the point where the Sharingan becomes the most broken ability in the series).

The Sharingan gives you a -lot- of benefits but they are temporary. Sharingan is a real risk vs reward form of power with it's most powerful ability only being unlocked by swapping your eyes with your siblings'.

However the Byakugan is never not going to be effective. There is no way to hide or fool a Byakugan user other than Shadow Clones, which are a very expensive jutsu to use. They have very effective defensive abilities and are at least as accurate as the Sharingan users, if not more-so with their strikes.

Basically, whilst a Sharingan can expend more power at once than a Byakugan, the Byakugan is the more reliable and less costly eye to take. When you weigh the one up against the other the two are pretty equal, especially considering the Sharingan is powered by 'SUPER-EMONESS!' (Seriously, Madara, Sasuke, and Obito equate to kids that are unable to cope with loss throwing a tantrum at this point)

Sorry for the wall of text here.
Firstly, your first point about the Byakugan (the blocking chakra flow) that is actually an added effect of the gentle fist(? Hyuuga's fighting style (It's been a while since it was mentioned so I kinda forget what it's called.)), when a Hyuuga strikes they release a small amount of their own chakra to interfere with the targets chakra points. The Byakugan just allows them to see where exactly these chakra points are in the body, immense training allows them to hit these points accurately.
Secondly, while yes, the Byakugans full power is readily available to users and the Sharingans is not, personally I still think the Sharingan is superior. While the cost for the higher levels are quite steep (Killing your closest friend and the sibling eye thing I don't think it's ever said exactly what happens with their eyes, just that you need a suitable pair so I'll leave it as "the sibling eye thing" ) it's power far surpasses that of the Byakugan. You almost dismiss the technique prediction effect (whilst you do mention it you kinda don't mention how useful it actually is) if you know what an opponent is going to do, you can start a counter attack before they've actually lunched their attack Which to me sounds pretty handy. , plus you get to the copying jutsu which again is pretty damn handy. Then you get to the extra jutsu you get when you unlock Mangekyo and eternal Mangekyo, Izanagi makes you immortal once before making you bind in one eye, while once isn't great it's better than dying and it would probably give you enough of an advantage in a fight to win, Tsukuyomi is an almost flawless genjutsu that can get information or just mentally torture a target, Amaterasu is a flawlessly powerful ninjutsu that burns something until it's gone, Susanoo is ridiculously powerful offence and defensively.

Kamui in my opinion is the most effective in my opinion can be used as a weapon by transporting an enemy or part of an enemy, it can be used a transportation as Obito often uses it or even a a defense by warping parts of your own body so an attack phases straight through you also as Obito often does, and finally there is Kotoamatsukami (Shisui's genjutsu) is an almost flawless way of controlling someone probably without them even knowing their under the influence of a genjutsu, I can't think of a situation where Izanami might be useful. Then there is EMS which powers up all of the users jutsu and removes the blindness that can occur (to which extent we are unsure).
So while yes, Byakugan is good and quite useful, Sharingan is by far superior.

TL;DR: Byakugan is ok, Sharingan is much better in my opinion.

What is more Amaterasu is something only Sasuke/Itachi can use just like how Kamui. Due to the unique nature of the ability and the difficulty of obtaining it (especially if you don't have a sibling to trade eyes with) you really have no means of knowing how useful or useless your Mangekyo will be.

Tsukiyomi is a tough one, mind you, however I doubt it is the only jutsu on the market that does that sort of thing and it is only effective against people who can't take that kind of torture, in which case there are more effective forms of interrogation as shown by the Leaf Ninjas diving into captives' brains personally.

As for Izunagi? Danzo had a TON of eyes to use Izunagi with. However he still lost. Against a good ninja the Izunagi is only prolonging your life for a short period before halving the power of your Sharingan forever. It's a benefit, sure, but much like everything else with the Sharingan it is a short-term gain, long-term loss.

Susanoo is just broken as **** to the point where it's almost indefensible as a concept. However it is by no means invulnerable nor is it even the strongest justu we've ever seen. It's a tough Jutsu however as we've seen every time they've appeared the Susanoo aren't impossible to defeat by any measure.

As it stands everything you get with the Sharingan is either a gamble or somehow achievable elsewhere. The Byakugan contains unique abilities available to everyone who uses it so once more it falls to what I said earlier:

whilst a Sharingan can expend more power at once than a Byakugan, the Byakugan is the more reliable and less costly eye to take.

The Gentle fist is only made possible through the Byakugan. The Byakugan is a technique that opens lots of doors as to the use of other techniques too precise for non-Byakugan users. They are one in the same and hence count towards each other.

The technique prediction is not actually prediction. It is merely that the Sharingan allows you to see things far more clearly which allows you to better predict your opponents. It is something made possible by the eye, similar to the Gentle Fist technique. However it isn't something that the sharingan alone can do. Anyone can predict the opponent's moves to some degree with foresight and wisdom, the Sharingan makes it much easier is all. Yet even then it never proves to be terribly useful against powerful enemies due to the fact that most enemies will either be attempting to catch you in a manner you are incapable of seeing coming (Zabuza's silent killing technique which stumps Kakashi's Sharingan) or just hitting you with attacks you can't avoid (Naruto vs Sasuke pre-shippuden)

So it's useful but it's not something unique to the Sharingan nor is it anything terribly useful against a skilled opponent.

There also is no copying jutsu. The Sharingan allows you to see and remember your opponent's abilities. Some ninja are just so good at that they can copy the techniques, like Kakashi and Sasuke. However it's not something that is seen often and you are still limited by your abilities to actually use the techniques.

The Mangekyo is something only a few unlock. We're not talking about the few, we're talking about the eyes. If it were one-on-one of the best of both the Sharingan would win but if it was 100 average users the Byakugan would win, hence how I summed it up at the end.

But let's look into the Mangekyo for a moment. It is a random power that you have no choice over what it's end-power will actually be. You just have to hope you get a good one. Plus what you need to go through to use the eyes. (Cont.)

im not sure what snowsharks or aspie's are.

the one thing i would focus on is, and this applies to pretty much everyone, is not becoming a cynic. Having a good dose of IDGAF can help, but you can't tune yourself out to people that you disagree with or make you angry solely for that reason. Now if they're being an asshole for the sheer sake of spiting you, then it's just best to cut off the conversation and take bits and pieces that are relevant. Paying more attention to positive events, as small as finding a quarter to hearing that Ron Paul is elected emperor of earth, think more highly of those and more lowly of all the bad **** you hear, since 'bad' itself, the actual concept and existence of it, is a bigger attention whore than good.

I think i made it up, but im not sure.

Seriously, I've got bipolar knocking around up there too. I know how to cheer myself up and not focus on the negatives... 'cus if you don't learn that sharpish you're gonna be one miserable ******.

Either way, I'll be using Fedorian sometime soon... probably. In return I can suggest some good manga/youtube vids/channels for you to check out if you want. The thing about Lyle is that it actually takes a lot of wit to come out with the crude humour he comes out with. Crude humour devoid of wit is what Happy Madison creates. Things like Grown Ups and other Adam Sandler vehicles.

Lyle is very clever in how stupid his humour is. He may not spend ages agonising about how to get each joke right, but that's because his wit and intellect are naturally disposed to his own brand of comedy. He doesn't need to think it, he just 'is' it. Let's Play WWE '13

So how much do you know about the AH crew and their Let's Plays (they're the only Let's Plays I can watch outside of the comic ones like Krillen Plays.)

Where Madara basically spits the tools for his own demise into a comedy skit where we have the first reference of Neji's death post-chapters about him dying and it's a ******* comedy moment... just like every time Hinata does anything nice for Naruto (though those are unintentionally hilarious because she is way too ******* good for Naruto... at least Naruto as Kishimoto writes him, a Sakura-centred retard who spent 3 years with his master and didn't learn a single new technique.)

The last chapter of Naruto was surprisingly decent as was the latest chapter of Fairy Tail and even the last few of Bleach... it can't last... those manga are all so ******* horrible a lot of the time.

Thankfully there are manga like One Piece, and Kingdom which kick all kinds of ass and are written damned well!

You don't read it? It's a manga that's set in the Warring States period of ancient china (i.e. the most astounding time in military history that birthed men like Sun Tzu and Lee Xin, some of the greatest military minds of all time.) and rather than being some high-fantasy romp like with Naruto it's a far more low-fantasy (though still fairly exaggerated) series that focusses on the stories of the men fighting the wars in that era set against the backdrop of battles of hundreds of thousands of men.

It's a weekly series where the artwork is better than most monthly series and every chapter ends on a glorious note leaving you gagging for the next one. It starts off pretty slowly but as time goes by everything just gets better and better and better.

I could gush for days as to how good the series is. Read it. It is without a doubt the best shounen I've ever read and one of the best written 'things' in all genres of the creative medium that I've ever had the chance to enjoy.

They do. It's just no excuse for what happened to the animation. When it comes to saving money you use camera magic, i.e. the art of making people see things that aren't truly there. Plus... that slamming into the ground thing is just retarded. He's still got a human body there, if he's that indestructible then a ******* Rasengan wouldn't do ****.

To be fair, the body that was hit by the rock was controlled with Chakra, much like a puppet. Most people in the series have also taken heavy hits like that and been fine, mostly due to their Chakra and training non-stop.

Rasengan hits the inside of the body, which would destroy the Chakra system inside and prevent Nagato from moving it around, or it would destroy / damage the muscles so much that they couldn't move the rest of the body.

Except the rock's not being controlled by chakra. It's simply being held and smacked repeatedly into his head. The series shows people taking heavy hits however there are some things you need to bare in mind here.

1) Those bodies have been killed before with things other than Rasengan, like how Juraiya killed three of them. This means there's nothing special about them that requires rasengan-like attacks.

2) If the body is physically able to not be completely smooshed by that rock (which is far bigger than the one that splooshed half of Obito) then he has absolutely nothing to fear from the Meat-Tanks that Chouji and his dad nearly hit him with earlier, yet he still blocked that. In fact he blocks every attack that comes at him implying that he has something to fear from them.

3) It is only with 'this' body in 'this' sequence where we see this happen and this didn't actually happen in the Manga. In the manga the gem immediately starts to confine Naruto and then Naruto does a Biju Bomb inside of the ruined Konoha, then Pain retreats and does the Chibaku Tensei.

Most of that fight is non-canon, hence why its tone is so contrary to the rest of the Naruto Universe. It's essentially no different to filler. It was made to make both Pain and Naruto look like badasses but in the end none of it even mattered and those terrible graphical hiccups had no reason to be in the episode at all.

... Who said anything about the rock being controlled by Chakra? Pein's body was the thing being controlled by Chakra.

1) Jiraiya only 'killed' one body, the rest were just injured to the point where they couldn't move for a few moments. Only the summoning body was damaged enough to not be used ever again.
2) Obito was a kid and had /several/ rocks hitting him. The fact that he didn't die instantly with his brain being crushed, along with most vitals, proves that his body was able to resist the damage, just not enough to save his life since the Senju cells did that. The Meat Tanks, however, are not like rocks.

The Meat Tanks are also actual people, if you recall, and are most likely a lot harder than a rock. Not to mention that, unlike the rock, he wouldn't just be getting smashed by it, he'd be getting rolled against constantly like a giant drill. His body would break eventually.

3)Fights in the anime are always extended and put more detail into, with either a whole new fight sequence, like they did here, and are still considered canon for the most part. Some things are overlooked, but overall this scene /was/ accepted by the writer to be put in. Otherwise, it would have been taken out.

Hrmm? Oh, yeah I misunderstood you at first then changed my argument, hence why the points have nothing to do with that point. Must've forgotten to remove that part. My apologies.

1) Jiraiya killed the bodies, Pain just used his resurrection path body to bring them back. The reason the summoning body wasn't returned to the Pains was because it was sent to Konoha which is why they have it there for study. Pain doesn't have the body so he can't resurrect it.

2) You have a point with Obito but only if you believe Pain's body can suffer that kind of damage which I don't, especially considering nowhere else in the series do we ever see someone survive that kind of damage or anywhere close to it.

As for the Meat Tanks, I think you are over-complicating things in an attempt to make this make sense, which it doesn't. The Meat Tanks would crush him instantly just as every other body of Pains' is shown both in the anime and the Manga to have the same sort of resistances as every other Ninja in the series. It is only in this one instance which doesn't appear in the Manga where something similar to this is seen happening.

At no point are we told that ninja can survive that kind of damage nor do we ever see ninja survive that kind of damage except from the non-canon scene. You're inventing a reason that might explain how it makes sense however in doing so you are missing the important point that almost everything else added to the fight in the anime is contrary to the tone and consistency set up by every other episode and chapter of the series.

3) You don't quite get it I think. Kishimoto doesn't have the final say as to what goes into the anime meaning that wether he fought against it or not he ultimately doesn't have the deciding say in the matter. Most manga adaptations are done like movie adaptations where the animation company buys the rights to make an adaptation with full creative control and the mangaka is kept on in an advisory capacity.

You're watching a show about 5 countries fighting for dominant power by using the force of ninjas, where some ninjas have special ability and some have demons in them after a long fight of being stabbed/shot/cut/slashed/burned/skin shredded they're still able to move. While some posses powers that allow them to manipulate the human eye, the leader of the countries are ninjas while kids are trained to be ninjas...ninjas...ninjas and more ninja related stuff that happens.

And you're complaining about some guy being smashed into the ground by a giant demon fox that can talk, expecting his skull to shatter or something? Tell me did you expect realism? Also he has like 9 bodies or something...the **** man

If you think this is about realism then you're mistaken. It's about consistency. When you create a world you create a new form of realism which is unique to that world, however a world needs to be consistent otherwise it will become full of holes. Even if the world is meant to be inconsistent it must be consistently inconsistent.

Pain there gets slammed in the head by a rock about 20-40 times his own size several times. He is later defeated by a single attack from Naruto. The point is not about realism not was it ever mentioned. The point is that if you write something you need to obey the rules you set yourself and ensure the audience will understand them. If you keep changing how tough the enemies are without any sign of the change happening or even 'why' they're able to take that much punishment then the audience are left baffled the moment they actually think about it.
