Here's my two cents...

Goku, the father, paved the way and realized his potential after a lifetme of training. Gohan (and later Goten) just got lucky, and hit the genetic lottery, having Goku and ChiChi (who is quite powerful, as far as typical humans are concerned) for parents. In addition, by the time Gohan was born, even though Goku hadn't reached super saiyan yet, he was still a lot stronger than most of the people who trained him as a child (Grandpa Gohan, Roshi, Korin, Popo/Kami, etc.). So, Goku's sons also got that much more of a headstart on their training.
Also, that half-saiyan thing, and maturing faster because of it.

Isn't it kind of natural for newer generations to surpass the older ones? At least in theory... Gohan and Goten squandered all that potential and opportunity, and seemed to take training less and less seriously as they grew up.

Gohan also trained in the hyperbolic time chamber in the cell saga. That couldve made him ****** and look older in a short amount of time

Feels like I'm the only one who watched this show now...

First pic is gohan at SSJ2 when fighting Cell.
Second pic is Goku in Dragon Ball. He's the only one who uses the power staff and flying nimbus. Also the hair. Come on guys, the hair...

Vegeta has bad character development because it took 100+ episodes for him to develop.

And it takes 5+ episodes to charge one attack, I don't see where you're going with this.

It's because at that point in time, Gohan had a lot of badassness hidden inside of him. However, the typical 11 year old body could not contain such a vast amount of badassness, so his body grew more manlier in order to properly channel the badassness.

Goku looked like that when he was 16.
User avatar #76 - warwolfrider (08/27/2013) [-]
well people give Gohan **** but hes more power at his age then goku was
Gohan while during frieza saga had 10000 or so power level and he was like what 6 ?
and goku in dragon ball when it first started he had 10 and at the At the 22nd Tournament he was at 180 only reason why goku is more powerful is because 1 hes old 2 he fights more and 3 HE IS THE MAIN CHARACTER
User avatar #90 to #76 - krajan (08/27/2013) [-]
actualy goku is stronger becouse he actualy trains n wants to fight gohan is just a whiner and a pacifist look at goten n trunks they were super saiyans at like 7 and 8 without even training or anything they also jsut got lazy and ****** around n got weak thats why they never got past super saiyan

yeah hold on a minute while I find all the reality flaws in a show about flying aliens who fight with energy balls and regularly blow up earth and "wish" it back with a dragon who emerges from some balls
#87 to #65 - azianpwnage (08/27/2013) [-]
Its anime... so any reality flaws in it is pretty much regular

I'll say this without fear. Gohan was the most useless. The only useful thing he did was defeat cell, and even then, that was with Goku's help. Everything else he's ever done, or tried doing, he has ****** things up.
When dealing with Freiza, the entire time, he whined and whined and WHINED that he should help. And he just sat there like a little bitch.
When Cell came along, he whined and slacked during all the training, it wasn't until several of them were dead, himself nearly dead, that he put out a finishing move, which was fully backed by Goku's spirit power.
When Buu was around, he slacked. And barely fought at all, was nearly killed early on, them took up like a season and a half getting stronger. Only to not even go super saiyan when fighting, and got absorbed after getting his ass handed to him repeatedly.
At least Yamcha helped throughout the original Dragonball and tried fighting most of the villains.

the mystic form he got from old kai was a replacement form for his super saiyan it made him about as powerful as ss3 goku but without the powerdrain or need to transform its only flaw was gohans inexperience and lazyness as a fighter and id like to point out that he does transform into a super saiyan in gt but cmon its gt that show was plotholed to hell
User avatar #78 to #60 - eiaisqzbsesb ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
The whole not even go super saiyan arguement doesn't really work, as his mystic form was much more powerful, and couldn't be used at the same time as super saiyan since the mystic form requires you to be calm while the super saiyan form invokes natural rage.
User avatar #79 to #78 - giinthir (08/27/2013) [-]
They never said he couldn't use both. From what I could tell, the only reason he didn't is because they said he wouldn't need it.
User avatar #83 to #79 - eiaisqzbsesb ONLINE (08/27/2013) [-]
There might also be a restriction to using two different forms of powering up at once. Hence why goku never combined super saiyan with Kaioken.

i wouldn't say never Super Kaioken! (1080p HD)

After crying and whining in a pod, for most of the episode. Then went unconcious, and his anger propelled him. He did NOTHING himself.

Define himself
User avatar #75 to #74 - giinthir (08/27/2013) [-]
Himself as in, him doing them. His emotions did everything while he was unconscious.
User avatar #77 to #75 - sarphog (08/27/2013) [-]
I don't disagree that much with Gohan being useless, but that argument there.. Just, no. Emotions themselves provoke action, and being provoked into action means he's doing it himself. This isn't like Bleach or Naruto when Kurama/Hollow Ichigo take over their bodies, mixing with their consciousness, or even taking over.
User avatar #80 to #77 - giinthir (08/27/2013) [-]
The sayian part of him(tail) took over. Which is why he had no memory of doing that.
User avatar #82 to #80 - sarphog (08/27/2013) [-]
But let's just stop here. Good arguments on both sides, nothing can be proven.

I thought it explained somewhere in the series that it takes fully blooded saiyan's longer to age or something?

I've heard a lot about DBZ, but never really watched it. Which series is the best? How many episodes are there, and does it really take as long as everyone says for the characters to do anything?

Dragon ball was childish humor and excitement watching the main protagonist of the entire series grow and its heartwarming.

Dragon Ball Z is more serious and more fighting actually takes place.

User avatar #68 to #49 - trolliosis (08/27/2013) [-]
DBZ is great! Don't not watch it. Watch from ep 1 and keep going. Seasons (sagas) go by farely fast if you grind through them. I've seen the episodes when i was younger but a friend of mine has the entire series on dvd and it wasn't anywhere close to as bad as it was when you had to wait a week for the next ep
User avatar #51 to #49 - AlexPaincakes (08/27/2013) [-]
DBZ is the more action-filled and longest. Although I really liked DB but it has a different feel to it than DBZ. If you're watching the episodes online then you wont have to care how many episodes you go through to see things happen. It just sucked watching it as a kid and you watched an episode where they basically put a lot of story into it then had to wait until the next episode. I love the Dragon Ball Series as a whole it's a great series imo and Idk why people talk so much **** about it. I would highly recommend it.
