To be honest the number one reason I admire Japan is the simple fact that despite not having much of any in natural resources they managed to become a leading economic power. Considering their small size, the fact they have become such a large economic force is a testament to their efficiency and ingenuity.

The culture has some cool stuff, but plenty of things about Japan suck. The fact that they are so xenophobic is one.

I have a great love for anime, I love it as a method of story telling, and I personally think the sheer level of literature/story telling that goes on in japan is amazing. Light novels, novels, internet books, phone novels, manga, shorts. Just about anything can become popular and be adapted. Try to tell a story in America and see how far you get.

On a final note, most anime fan's aren't annoying. A few are kinda psycho, but even the Japs have their otakus so it's more of a statistical anomaly.

I'm a huge fan, but I'm also a huge fan of American movies. I try not to let my fandom define me. I'll admit to using lots of anime gifs on FJ, but we all know there are just so many good ones to choose from.

I kinda wanna learn Japanese, only because I listen to the language so damn much it'd be a shame if I couldn't understand it after 5 freaking years. Also RAWS. Also, fansubs are actually kinda crummy at translating much of the time. Also... I could play imported games...

Sorry for the wall of text but this is a repost and I just felt like talking.

With slight modification, this works for bronies too.

Good:
- Shaving regularly
- Liking the show not only because of fan art (and other creations), but for the actual show itself
- Knowing that just because it's acceptable on a forum to gush about how much you want to cum inside rainbowdash, does not mean it's acceptable in real life.
- Not hating others just because they don't like ponies.

Bad:
- Being obnoxious and shoving ponies in peoples faces
- shouting 20% cooler/ twilightlicious/ some other pony meme constantly even when it's not relevant in any way.
- Using broken ponish. (i.e., everypony, anypony, somepony)
- Not shaving
- Claiming you are a "true brony" because you watched g1-3.5/watched each episode more than once
-Shoving your fanfic in others faces.

I don't think you need to be a fan of Japan in order to appreciate anime

Short for "Relationships". It's common for fandoms to have pairings that they really like. These are called "ships". The more you know, ************ .

Good:
-Accepting that some people prefer dub/sub
-Accepting that yes, some anime are made in China or Korea, too.
-Supporting gay rights because it's the right thing, not just because yaoi/yuri is "cute".
-Learning about cultures/languages/history etc that you enjoy in an anime and want to know more about

Bad:
-OMG IF YOU WATCH DUB THEN GET OUT YOU'RE NOT A REAL FAN!
-Using Japanese spellings for English words, or refusing to use English translations ie " ************ "; we know what it means, we wouldn't be confused if you used the translation.
-Judging a culture on an anime; no, Germany is not full of nazi vampires and the Vatican doesn't want to attack England because they are filthy protestant sows.
-Hating on a fandom or part of a fandom because of their harmless fanon/au.
-Applying a type of erotica to real life- ie twincest, shota, loli.
