Yamada and The 7 Witches is a manga that's about Yamada and his adventures with the witches of Suzaku High. Each witch has a distinct supernatural power and the story is about several supernatural adventures with the Witches.

It's got some cute moments, some nice plot and a pretty good story as the series evolves. The author / artist was an assistant for the guy that does Fairy Tail, so you might see a lot of similarities in art style and uh... exposition!

Yamada and the Seven Witches even has an anime. Although it's only adapted up to a certain point. Still, if that's more your thing, go for it.

This manga is a 6/10 for me.

The entire idea starts out alright, but I kind of wished it was more... I dunno. In detail, I suppose? There's not much experimentation with the body-swapping beyond "Hey, we can do it" and a bit of perversion on both their ends. Excluding using her brain for some tests, Yamada doesn't even try to be stuck in a girl body for very long. More or less, nothing is really done 'for fun' unless it's already being done for some other motive.

The overall idea of the 7 witches, and whatever Yamada is, is a good one but it kind of quickly falls off after a bit. There's not really much going on except teen drama, and while that's acceptable, it's kind of the only real issue. It focuses way too much on who is going to be the next 'President', who has /way/ too much power as it stands, and less on the origin of the powers themselves. It's not mystical enough, basically.

I think the /biggest/ issue is Yamada's character falling apart, though, and how brute force is applied but then negated whenever the plot calls for it. Yamada, at the start, is shown to be a really strong guy with fighting moves. But after the 2nd time he beats up some guys in a girl's body, he never shows that strength again. He just gets man handled by everyone. And the guys that manhandle him? They get manhandled by someone else later on. Yamada still has a really big heart and surprisingly bright when he wants to be, but a major point of his original character kind of just disappeared after the first couple chapters.

I could go on, but all I'll say is after the 1st "season" of the 7 witches is when the whole story goes completely down hill. Still a good read, but full of even more issues and features less of Shirashi, which was a step in the wrong direction.

This manga is a 6/10 for me.

I personally enjoyed some moments like Yamada making sure everyone is happy, the first memory wipe where Yamada was basically forgotten by everyone and i felt incredibly bad for Yamada. It was a very difficult situation that he tried to bear at first.

Some of the powers are incredibly basic as they are though. So they don't require a lot of experimentation to figure out. They don't seem to have a lot of drawbacks either, since they're given to troubled people. The powers are supposed to solve their problems, not create more. Yamada did spend about a day in Shiraishi's body at one point and it had no effects on either of them.

I never thought his strength was a central point of his character though. Rather than trying to bruteforce all of his problems, he's a lot more careful in solving his problems at this point.

I think the major issue is that in the "first season" the Council President at that point made a very good antagonist to them and they had a clear objective. The second season doesn't really have an antagonist anymore. The genius isn't really an antagonist since the chess club was dissolved.

I did feel bad for him too, but the entire memory wipe thing kind of goes over my head a bit. Their memories are more-so edited than erased, and that could cause a lot of holes if you really thought about it, like Shirashi's first meeting or people swapping with "Yamada" being replaced with someone else, like Shirashi who refuses to kiss anyone but Yamada in the first place. But who else would they kiss to swap bodies if Yamada wasn't "there?"

I don't really get why the Seventh Witch has to erase memories anyways, to be honest. Yes, if they were bad, that'd be alright, but it seems to just cause more trouble than fix anything, especially in Yamada's case since he can't be affected by it.

What I meant for experimentation was more so what they could /do with them/, not how they work. Like, could they swap with an adult? Charm a shop keeper? Do the powers even work correctly outside the school? But I mostly meant personality experimentation.

Yamada also doesn't /try/ to do anything girly as well when he's in Shirashi. I mean, I wasn't expecting him to become a cross-dresser or anything, but I at least expected at least one or two chapters of the two going on a date in swapped bodies while dressed up to accommodate themselves. Like Yamashi, heh, in a dress and Shirada in a fancy suit. But nothing like that happens.

The memory wipe replaced it either with another person or just left it empty. I think Miyamura filled in Yamada's part in most of the memories that got "erased". Shiraishi felt like she was in love with someone, but she couldn't say who. The feeling was there, but any connection to Yamada disappeared.

The Seventh witch power is indeed weird, but they do serve as a control for the witches.

Well they figured that you could swap with anyone if you kissed them. So they probably assumed it extended to adults aswell. Alhough i do believe the powers work outside of the school. Shiraishi and Yamada could swap just fine outside of the school.

I doubt Yamada is / was interested in being a girl. Shiraishi might've been for the sake of experiencing it, but i doubt it'd be mutual.

I think it was more about him being late constantly and generally underperforming. Which is natural, seeing as he didn't want to go to the school at all anymore. He was alone and had a reputation as a delinquent. So not a lot of reasons to try hard for school.

They were trying to find all the witches and figuring out all the witch powers. The Council President gets told at the start of his term to keep the Witch powers a secret by means of the 7th witch. He was just following President tradition and trying to keep the witch powers hidden, to prevent chaos.

Yeah, the small amount of Shiraishi bothered me. But the story wasn't entirely Shiraishi / Yamada, since the interactions with the club were also a huge part of it. The second set of witch powers aren't exactly completely different though. On the base line they can be described as the same, but their effects are different. It's still Telepathy, except constantly now. It's still Charm, except mandatory and immediate. There's not a lot of variations on "Body Swapping".

Now where's the fun in having adults meddle with it all? The only adults we see are the parents of the students. Except Shiraishi's. We haven't seen anything of Shiraishi's family, besides the fact that they're constantly working.

Well, some scanlation groups host Direct Download links for the mangas they translate! Otherwise any torrent program would suffice if you can find a torrent for the manga you want to read.

I don't usually download manga, i just read them online. The scans are usually in decent quality. So please excuse my inability to help.

It came out in Spring 2015, doesn't look like there'll be a dub if you like watching dubbed. It's a really enjoyable anime if you're interested in it, definitely one of my favourites!

The story isn't complete though Yamada ****** up with his wish, instead of abolishing witches it just got rid of the current witches, also it turns out there are more than just 1 group of witches in the school.

If you haven't read the manga then the anime looks pretty complete but in actuality it isn't.
