"japanese culture is superior and far more advanced than our own"

In all fairness ... ukiyo e was cheap as hell in it's time, and wasn't exactly meant to be high class, but the Europeans and Americans thought it was the finest art. I mean, don't get me wrong! It's beautiful and lovely art! I just think we Westerners went overboard with our weabooism.
#83 to #37 - anon (09/09/2015) [-]
all of these could've come from 1 country...and we wouldn't notice.

you definitely know the bottom one is from japan though.
more than beauty, art is culture.
it shows that japan does have heritage and does value its heritage, even though it might look ugly to you.

I'd argue that Japanese isolationism from 1936-1854 was a big reason behind such a rift in culture and art.
#46 to #37 - anon (09/09/2015) [-]
some beleive that the europeans cheated by using a technique called camera obscura.
#92 to #46 - endospore (09/09/2015) [-]
It'd still be pretty impressive considering that means that they found real ******* angels to take pictures of.
User avatar #59 to #46 - bronybox (09/09/2015) [-]
Well, they'd be wrong.
Not to say the Europeans NEVER used camera obscura, buuuut.

Yes, I remember the passage very well.

"If an enemy attempts to overwhelm your forces by farting in your direction on accessible ground, a wise general will not hesitate to use giant white paddles to deflect the farts back on his foes. Such general is truly a divine gift to his sovereign."
User avatar #114 to #57 - guanyu (09/09/2015) [-]
Zhuge Liang made a huge risk summoning those winds. Luckily Cao Cao didn't have any white fans to deflect them he only had red ones . His ships burned with a bright blue that night.

#40 - feedmeh (09/09/2015) [-]
FALSE!
The 19th century of Japanese art was the time of the Yōga period, which was when Japanese artists decided they wanted to be more like the westerners and paint in the expressionist style.

Actually that's pretty true. Much of early anime was greatly influenced by western cartoons by Disney and his contemporaries.

I'm calling some ******** on this. Different techniques were applied as time went on in Japan, just like in any other culture. Also, modern Japanese art isn't just anime. Take this modern artist's work, for example.
#120 to #118 - nightmarexnxnxnxnx (09/09/2015) [-]
What is humorous about telling others that a country¨s art has not advanced since 11th century when it is obvious ******** ?
User avatar #77 to #38 - hapasan (09/09/2015) [-]
Thank you, from a Japanese person.
I'm glad there was someone here who knows what they are talking about.
I hate it when people think anime is all there is to Japan.
I know this a joke, but I hear this stuff way too much from the younger generation these days.

Weeaboos think they know Japanese culture better than the Japaneses themselves

... I'm currently learning Japanese, on my own, with no teachers, at the age of 25. Why? I just really like how Japanese sounds and I want to know as much about it as possible. Do you have any tips for me? Sorry for bugging you. I just want all the information I can get. :3
I've currently learned hiragana, katakana, a few kanji, and a few extra words and phrases.
