This .gif sums up the entirety of Toaru Kagaku no Index. The spinoff series, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (and currently-airing sequel TKnRailgun S) is much better in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, the original isn't bad—it's got a great premise with solid presentation and action, but I always found the main characters to be the least interesting of the bunch. The character Index, literally the namesake of the show, is the most transparent and unimportant character in the entire series for god's sake.

Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought so, seeing as how Railgun is based on Misaka, who plays only a minor—but incredibly interesting—role in Index. Index is still worth seeing—if nothing else, just for the sake of character introduction and background.

So one should watch both seasons of index before going on to railgun?
User avatar #48 to #40 - desmondxburton (07/08/2013) [-]
The Railgun anime only involves events that happen before and during the first season of Index, and it isn't necessary to watch Index before Railgun, but if you do you'll understand the scenes that reference things that happened in Index and other small details like that.

To be honest, Railgun bored the living crap out of me. Misaka is literally the only interesting main character, considering Saten, Uiharu and and Shirai don't work for crap as main characters and the slice of life scenes stare whiny, uninteresting high school girls. Personally, I like Touma despite him being a fairly generic shonen MC, and characters like Accelerator make up for it.

Index can't even be counted as a main character because after her arc she pretty much does nothing. Also the Index anime stops right when the story in the book series takes off and starts developing many characters and the whole world that the story happens in. It introduces many important characters that become protagonist with as much importance as Touma. It also greatly expands parts of Academy City that were only hinted in Index or shown tiny glimpses of in Railgun. All of that leads to even larger battles and enemies that would have made even ones like Accelerator or Veto of the front pale in comparison. All while still managing to keep the story easy to follow and keeping the main theme of the show in sight.

link to whole book series in english inclinding side stories like Railgun
www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=To_Aru_Majutsu_no_Index

TL;DR- It gets way better after the anime ends of brings in some of the same things that make people like Railgun

Index is a main character because without her there would be no magic side of the story at all. the creator of the series basically made index a huge factor in any magic conflict. examples? well this badass mother ****** for starters (stiyl magnus is my favorite magician if that wasnt obvious). but what i was saying is that if you look at any magic conflict you see touma punching some one but also index in there somewhere tying strings together so you dont just have magicians appearing for the hell of it. also if this doesnt make sense i apolagize its 4 am and i dont even know why im up.
TL;DR- stiyl magnus is badass and the books are worth the read.
have a good day and you have wonderful taste in light novels random funnyjunker

At the beginning yes she is important to introduce Touma to the magic side but Sherry Cromwell the reason Touma clashes with the magic side is due to the targeting Academy City(Oriana Thomson), targeting someone around him due to his influence(Etzali), them targeting him directly(All the members of God's right seat except for Terra of the Left), or some other sort of circumstance. Also with Touma starting to be able to use his own intelligence to figure out how the enemy is using their magic and come up with ways to beat them Index isn't even need for that anymore and from what I can see in New Testament(just finished volume 4) it doesn't look like she is going to be important to the main story any time soon. But this is all just my opinion so I understand if you agree with my point of view

P.S. If you liked the Index novels you should try Heavy Object

He has the most over powered **** powers conceivable. On the other hand the accelerator has one of the most awesome powers conceivable, If I could have any power I would have accelerators power I think, along with the ability to control it though.

Meanwhile what if everyone in the world actually has touma's power but because no one has any different powers it is completely useless.

Touma isn't overpowered all it really takes to beat him is physical attacks without any special abilities being used and his imagine breaker is useless
#33 to #14 - lightcloud (07/08/2013) [-]
His power is literally useless if no one else has powers.

And the most over powered **** conceivable, you cant conceive him having 2 arms like that, or his whole body?
User avatar #44 to #14 - tenfinnvo (07/08/2013) [-]
To the last line, his ability breaker or *************************** destroys absolutely any kind of powers magic and **** , including that of "luck", whereas as we all get lucky sometimes, we do not have this power.
#49 to #44 - desmondxburton (07/08/2013) [-]
But even then it has a limit like when he fought Stiyl and Index at the beginning is the magic is continuous or regenerates the most Imagine Breaker can do is hold it back or deflect it slightly unless he destroys the source of the magic or esper power

It's from to aru kagaku no railgun, don't know which episode though. Also, railgun is a spinoff of index, so you should watch that first if you're going to watch them. Index season 1, railgun season 1, index season 2, and railgun season 2 is the order they were created, I think.
#2 to #1 - desmondxburton (07/07/2013) [-]
It from the first season of To Aru Kagaku no Railgun which is a spin-off of Toaru Majutsu no Index, but I don't remember which episode.

No, she wanted to beat him because she was pissed about how she couldn't even touch him and he always walked off without fighting back.

i'd watch some of these shows, if it weren't for the names being so long. why are the shows names so long all the time?
User avatar #30 to #29 - desmondxburton (07/08/2013) [-]
If you want to find shows like that just use their shortened name like Index or Railgun
User avatar #31 to #30 - EnergizierAnon (07/08/2013) [-]
most of them are also in japanese though. i don't speak japanese, and i prefer to watch the show over reading what they are saying.

Because Misaka isn't evil?
she's quite lovely, actually
User avatar #45 to #9 - TheMather ONLINE (07/08/2013) [-]
Because Misaka wanted to fight him just for the sake of fighting him and then flinched when he raised his fist.
He only punches people who still want to fight, like when Aurelius was so afraid of him that his mind started deteriorating, he didn't punch him either. Granted that may have been because his hand wasn't attached at that point, but the point still stands.
