"Our literary nerd Akihito has special powers to exorcise phantoms with a sketchbook because he was breastfed as a child, if I'm understanding correctly. The same can be said for his upperclassman and partner Mai, whose breasts were routinely the focus of this episode. Actually, looking at the breastfed thing, maybe boobs were the starting point of this light novel adaptation and the rest was just built around them, like a supportive, supernatural brassiere."
It's not about fanservice, it's about the amount of titles that have nothing but fanservice. Sunabozu had a god mix of action and big and small ol' tiddies, for example.
I'm saying they didn't end it in the same way people say there was no live-action Avatar movie. I thought the end was atrocious, I'm amazed you could have liked that. With this great a difference in opinion there's probably no point discussing it.
In the version I watched they called him a 'wise man'. I don't know if that's just a title or if it was actually a man. He might have just trancended the concept of gender altogether.
The character is more of a concept than a physical thing, as he is supposed to take the 'opposing' or antagonizing form of whoever witnesses him, in order to help them over-come trauma and conflict.
Since the guy saw him first, he took the appearance of the women in his life, especially his sister, who he had to kill.
Since the girl heard him first, he took the personality/mannerisms of her father, who was killed in front of her.
I personally liked the anime, I thought the fight scenes were great, the main character is well developed and the overall plot was personally interesting. One of the downsides is you're going to have to be ready to burn 40 minutes for each episode making the 12 episode run the same as watching a 24 episode run of normal length.
I recommend it but watch the first episode before you make any decisions, eh?
