no kaiba that's a sandstone from ancient Egypt "written" in obscure hieroglyphics that has experienced over 5000 years of erosion. we can barely read it let alone for an untrained rich dude like you to recognize someone's face.

there was an ep. where kaiba was shown a stone that had characters on it and he said one was yugi this is what i thought.

I never understood kaiba, he was rich handsome, and he decided he couldnt be happy unless he beat an 11 year old on a card game wtf.

he was the best duelist in the world until he lost to Yugi

champions always wan't to be the best

and remember yugi had only jsut started playing
he like wins everything his first time its kinda rediculous
likethe dice game it was like "dice guy" i must beat you at a game youv never played to prove im good "yugi" to late i won

Yami-Yugi (Or Atem, whichever you prefer) has years of experience in games of strategy where alot is on the line. Which is why Yugi wins almost all of his matches, because Atem comes out and does it for him, throughout the series Yugi observes his dueling and learns to be strategic himself. Eventually you see Atem and Yugi conversing with each other while dueling. The one thing I learned that made me a better duelist was to never play your entire hand (Pretty simple but very helpful)

yamis strategy from the origional game was a huge help and theres a lot of good story arc where yugi duels for him self or vice versa
but sometimes its like neither of them have ever doen this before (noted in the dice one to continue my example)
and verses a pro
they make many mistakes and happen to beat the guy
its very unlikly you can have great strategy but different games require different strategies
its like i wouldnt expect him to be good at league of legends
but as the king of games of course he would be

The one thing I always wondered about the show is how they came up with the duels, do they just think them out or try to actually play them out with slight adjustments. The key with the way they would play the games that would actually work (Not that it was written so that they would win) was that Yugi always played conservatively, is he had the upper hand he wouldn't try to escalate it, that way when his opponent made a good move he still had a good arsenal to comeback and win with. (Compared to alot of the people he duels who he beats by clearing the field and they have nothing left to play)

i dont understand the question
how they made the duels as writers or how they did as like how kiaba programed them (as some stuff was possible that we cant do in some ways)
or like how the character planed things out

How they made the duels as writers

id assume since hte card game haddnt even come out yet (they were based off the show)
things like destroy the moon from that episode (which itself became a card)
didnt need to fallow any set rules
so they jsut picked a theme so this guy will use bugs
ok now whats his main stratagy and cards oh a big moth thing that evolves over time so he will need stalling bsaed deck
oh well how can yugi beat that oh i got it this thing lets make him have this thing

alright now organize that into a game so make it turned based what order should we draw them that it plays out jsut like that

....
thats how i imagine it

But later I feel like it would actually be easier that once the character's strategies were understood and how they dueled was established, they could have "decks" for them and would basically choreograph a duel, depending on how it would go would be how much dialogue and dramatics they would add to the episode
User avatar #24 to #22 - ljlightfire (04/23/2014) [-]
it makes sence to say just play a duel in real life and then make up dialog later
two problems
they need duels to go certain ways for plot reasons so its easier to pick what you want to happen then make the duel later
each duel focuses on different problems like dont rush to hard or dont do this or this is why you lost
so its easier to decide what htey want to happen then create a duel around that
and since the card game was 3 years after the show started they could jsut make up cards as they went that fit the plot

The thing that annoyed me the most was the first season (Also my favorite season) ik that they were establishing rules and didnt know exactly how the game was going to go but they used a logic stream that worked for the holograms only when its shown in some episodes that the game is played tabletop. So alot of those scenarios wouldn't work if not for the holograms
User avatar #27 to #25 - ljlightfire (04/23/2014) [-]
again like he destroys the moon in one and it was like yugi your making up rules (now theres a literal card that does jsut that)
oddly enough the show doesnt make sence untill the cards come to life
when they have personalities and the fights are real theres no rules to break or like well how can the computer be programed for that or otehr discrepencies
User avatar #28 to #27 - anonslayer (04/23/2014) [-]
atleast early on the strategies were dynamic and everyone's deck wasn't centered on one thing, as the show progressed people became dependent on one card, where as the main duelists have their signature card (Joey with red eyes, Kaiba with blue eyes, Yugi with dark magician) but their decks function completely okay with out them. The one thing that pissed me off was how during tag-team duels Yugi would fuse something with Joey's red-eyes and would just so happen to have the fusion card
User avatar #29 to #28 - ljlightfire (04/23/2014) [-]
joeys card was the time keeper for a while
but yea the problem is its a tv show not a real set of games they needed to make it interesting not realistic

Actually they're the same age, if not a year apart.
User avatar #14 to #1 - captainfuckitall ONLINE (04/22/2014) [-]
Well they're actually not very far apart in age, but it's just because he was a perfectionist and couldn't stand losing. So if he managed to beat him it would be as if he was still better.

Kaiba tricked a rich guy into adopting him, he conspired to take over his company, he succesfully turned a weapons company into a gaming company without losing any profits, all before even finishing high school.

And somehow he needs to beat a guy who cheats with ancient egyptian magic in a children's trading card game to feel good about himself.

I went to the school book store since I had to buy a book for an intermediate accounting course. Even though it came with two, the books cost $300 together and it had to be that edition since the prof wanted an "updated to current events" version.

Cause I wonder where you are and I wonder what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely? Or is someone loving you?
Tell me how to win your heart, for I haven't got a clue
But let me start by saying
I LOVE YOU YUGI
