I don't think we really saw enough of Kushina to judge her. Sure, she did some of the standard tsundere routine, but by the time she was a ninja she didn't do the 'constantly flipping out and hitting people for no reason'. She actually seemed pretty cool from the few glimpses we had of her and Minato living together.

I honestly have only seen brief glimpses of that part myself, but the recentish video game showed her attitude more clearly as she grabs young Kakashi, or was it Obito?, and manhandles him for seemingly no reason.
We got far more than enough of Kushina's attitude to judge her. She's a standard tsundere, but minus the 'cute' part and add in an unneeded 'wavy hair' thing. Which shouldn't even be part of her character since the Kyuubi was put into her after she was an adult, but whatever.

Probably more useful than Sakura too, isnce no one is as useless as that characcter.

bluemagebrilly ONLINE (06/28/2015) [-] Nah, she didn't do a dang thing in Shippuden but cure Kankuro. Which is something that was heavily implied to be done by almost anyone, and then she got really lucky that Sasori was too busy to switch poisons in the following fight. Otherwise she'd be dead.
She was the only character I felt should have just stopped being a Ninja during the first half, mostly because of Kishi's bad writing, but still. She had her chance to become something better and she blew it.

bluemagebrilly ONLINE (06/29/2015) [-] The whole time skip was pretty meh though, to be honest. Main character wise, only Sasuke actually seemed to learn anything in those 2 years. Sakura did learn a few things, to make her 'better', but her overall weaknesses were still there. Don't even want to get started on Naruto...
I'll have to agree on improvement wise with Hinata. Others just stayed strong or learned a few tricks, but Hinata was pretty weak pre-skip and got a lot stronger, even if she couldn't land a hit on Pein. Everyone else was more or less the same up until the end where they had to be different.
But that's just Kishi's bad writing.
Don't get me wrong though, I think Sakura had great potential. Just... a horrible personality to go along with it. I thought of writing a story where she did grab that potential, but I'm lazy and only got around 15 pages or so.

thathorse (06/29/2015) [-] Not gonna lie I thought the whole time skip thing was pretty dope at first. Although Naruto never seemed to learn any other moves other than Rasengan, Shadow Clone, Sexy Jutsu, and Harem Jutsu I guess he did learn how to summon the toads all he did was gain power ups and learn how to better utilize his Chakra I kinda wanted to see him learn more moves.

bluemagebrilly ONLINE (06/29/2015) [-] The time skip idea is fine, but how it was executed was the problem. Naruto "learned" how to get out of Genjutsu and went 3-tails but couldn't control it. That's... more or less all that we got from that skip.
I also wanted to see him utilizing the various element Jutsu that Jiraiya had. Not to mention the Harashin that had been dangling in our face since the 4th's introduction. But no, Naruto just learns how to move in mid-air with Shadow Clones and how to get rid of Genjutsu. Oh, and a 'big' Rasengan I guess. Too bad he can't use it with only one hand.
Genjutsu was then dropped from 90% of the show, so Naruto basically learned nothing.
Naruto also never used the Toads for ... practically anything. I think he summoned Gama against Pein, then dismissed him, then summoned him again against the Tree at the end. There was like a dozen toads with various abilities, but Naruto just kept summoning the biggest one who just swung his sword around pointlessly.
It was pretty meh, but that's what we have fan fiction for, I guess.

I think Naruto just needed to actually train for awhile on a variety of skills, not on getting the Kyuubi up to par. If it wasn't for plot armor and Kyuubi's character being split apart, that wouldn't have even worked... If Kishi kept to the original stuff, at least.
But meh, what're we gonna do? <(' '<) Naruto is practically dead. 'Gaiden' is just a teen drama from what I've seen.

To be honest it's probably not worth reading up on it... Well, maybe up to the Pain fight. That fight was decent, considering how everything was. But everything else... just so meh.

bluemagebrilly ONLINE (06/28/2015) [-] The final battle was completely retarded for several reasons. It honestly stands as a final example of what Kishi turned Naruto into. What happened during that fight? Naruto and Sasuke did things. They were the only ones important, and the only use Kakashi had was /saving Sakura/ . You're completely right on the clone thing. If it had been a clone with Obito, then it would have probably gone even better.

Sakura's capabilities were all shared with Shizune for a long time, and Tsunade overshadowed Sakura the entire time, doing 10x the amount of healing she did in five seconds when Sakura had been healing for two chapters.
