This is a last name in Russia. The (ский) ending is a part of the Russian language.

macedonia stopped being a country thousands of years ago. That's like saying (sky) suffix is common as an Aramaic surname... as in, completely irrelevant.

It didn't re-declare it, ancient Macedonia was Greek (or at least under heavy Greek influence), present-day Macedonia is Slavic, they don't have too many things in common.
