I dunno. This thread seems to hate on it but I personally love it.
I have this deep, deeeeeeep love for fantasy novels where a time portal is discovered and we end up transported to some past timeline. I've always wondered "What would we do? How do we treat these people that are basically Middle Ages knights, etc. What about the economy?"
From the manga, I do get a much more political intrigue story going on which I absolutely love. Integrating our views of laws, marketing, and equality are all really interesting to see, no matter what the outcome is. If the author decided to make Japan a brutal, money-grabbing, land-conquering force that imposed its indomitable will on everybody, I'd be just as interested.
But that's my two cents. I know the Mary Sue-ness of the characters might be off-putting but I get around that.
Starts off epic and serious but then later devolves into MC is surrounded by females and turns political leaders of the fantasy world into weebs. Gets kind of disappointing but it has another season coming up and its not a bad watch.
I can't take it seriously, it's a "Japan stronk" wank-fest. It's not bad for the first episode or two, but it goes downhill when they start introducing the politics and the international community. It's still kind of amusing, but it's definitely not something that can be taken seriously.
Japan stronk because it was made by a Japanese who is a tad patriotic and for Japanese audience.
Other foreigner would cringe at how American movie spout out American values that they don't agree on, but keep watching the movies cause who else can make a good movie about giant alien robot getting snipe by SEAL TEAM 6?
>a tad patriotic
The dude is a die hard for nationalist, there is an episode where a JSOG team somehow beats spetsnaz, CIA SAD (picks it's operators from the tier 1 of delta, rangers, seals, etc), Sayeret, JTF-2, and some stupid amount more (all of which conveniently forgot their night vision for a night op).
**** even went full retard when he put "budget cuts" as the reason why they are using older uniforms and ******* 70s era tanks all the equipment he was using when he was in the JSDF. It's a mary sue story with him self inserted as the main character weeaboo lieutenant.
And as a final middle finger to the audence the character of Rory Mercury is that of an unstoppable demigod that can't be ******* killed. They get into any problem and she imediatly solves it by killing all their enemies. ***** retarded, first with random ass bandits, then a bandit army, then a ******* company of special forces operators.
**** gate, it's animation isn't even good anyways. Your mother bich.
>And as a final middle finger to the audence the character of Rory Mercury is that of an unstoppable demigod that can't be ******* killed. that was what i was afraid of; Japan doenst have a shortage of Animes that simply **** on logic --- i have to go ******* far to find **** that doesnt put a supporting cast of OP chars or the MC is stupid overpowered.... --- thx man, i'll pass on this **** .
Rory is OP as **** , but so are the other demi-gods. Gate in it's source material is an novel. Lots of novel have op characters, but there is a limit to even her powers.
ah forgot to say, the anime doesn't take itself too seriously, it is a comedy after all so if you're looking for a more serious complex anime then Gate isn't it
Oh, and for the recommendation of the JSDF anime.
It's probably pretty average for your typical anime watcher.
I ******* loved every second of it, but only because I'm a massive /k/aylord.
I watched it for the " **** your ******** magic. Guns trump fantasy all day" schpiel.
So yeah, if you're an avid /k/ browser, or even anything military related, watch it.
If you're not... Eh, it's pretty much your average harem, except they're not in ******* high school for once. That and the harem clichés aren't as obvious, I guess.
Would also say probably 5/10. Idea is great but this japanese stronk and genericness aswell as politics being unrealistic kinda kills it a little bit. SPOILER ALERT: If i were the japanese dudes i d try to help the people WHILE getting that king and senate assasinate killed because they are getting armies of people killed. Alot less "we are the nice guys helping who leave your asshat rulers get you massacred" and more like we liberate the **** out of you, let you build a democracy, get you boosted bunch of centuries in tech and wealth and trade for ressources and bring science into this magic stuff. Also it kinda feels like i dunno, a mix out of /k, magic, (good so far) and a slice of life harem in the battle zone. The protagonist being some sort of otaku isn't a bad thing for comedy or at least wouldn't be if the rest would look a bit more serious (doesn't mean there can't be jokes but i think the situation is a serious one thus there should be a more serious tone, SPOILER ALERT: having jokes likeprincess likeing "art" is ok but i think it should also take itself a bit more seriously where needed. Still overall its a 5/10 because good setting and sometimes good humor. Would wait for the second season, maybe it gets better and you can judge it better then. Don't write it off because people tell you its mediocre unless you have proper dislike for the attributes of the anime which you read here a bunch of times.
Oh and another thing i want to mention. Don't let yourself get fooled too much by bad descriptions. People judge animes not only differently compared to their own taste, but also because of the hopes they put up when they started watching/hearing about it. Gate has a really good setting thus people judge it harshly. Just like people got hyped for SAO and extremely disappointed. However SAO is quite worse than gate i think. Gate overall was 5/10 so decent i would personally say.
Depends what you find cringe worthy. The anime is about a guy in the military, a gate in tokyo opens up to a fantasy world, the guy leads a small army into the fantasy world, meets some girls and kicks fantasy ass with modern weapons.
The mc is surrounded by women but there's fair amount of male cast too. Not everyone loves the mc, it's more admiration. If you give it a go, I will say give it a few episodes because some people say it's a slow starter.
I'm not a fan of what you described and I still enjoyed gate, it was pretty funny, has some nice references and the middle aged fantasy army vs modern technology is brilliant to watch.
Hm, judging by what ppl have been saying, i think i will have to pass.
Which is a shame, because the pretense and setup is ******* awesome.
But i really think that most of the Anime that Japan pumps out is so cringe because the MC or supporting cast are either A) overpowered, B) solves every problem and the bad guys never seems to get a foot on the ground or C) main char is popular and every woman loves him.
I get what you mean, people have different tastes and all of the things you've listed are constantly recycled in anime, it get's annoying and sometimes dull. Hope you find something good to watch!
some really long ******** i had to look up but the english title is I Don't Like You at All, Big Brother. and the japonese title is Oniichan no Koto Nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne.
at the end of the day i would say it is somewhere between average and slightly above average. certainly does not bring anything new to the table
I am 100% sure I have seen this whole series yet I don't remember a single thing about any of the episodes except he likes panties but doesn't want to take on of his "sister".... Am I right?
plot synopsis goes as follows girl wants to molest her brother, gets upset when she find out hes not biologically related, proceeds to be a creepy stalker for the next 12 episodes. new girl comes in she played doctor with him when they where younger, episode 2 she gives him a condom and tells him "you know what do do", he does not and proceeds to be scared of her for the next 11 episodes. somewhere in the middle he starts hanging out with the school president and buys her porn and other beta things for her. i forget a bunch but there was something about a belly dancing cosplayer at the end. story end with him avoiding all the action even with 3 girls trying to rape him at every turn
Generic girls throwing themselves at a guy and guy being autistic and unrealistic (for this type of genre I guess) to the point the show isn't really that enjoyable and it completely makes sense as to why I didn't even bother remembering the name of this series never mind anything to do with it.
This anime is average at best:
animation quality isn't good
story is half assed (guy played doctor with a girl and she made him promise marriage)
sister is actually adopted but she's not aware about brother's relationship with the blondie and decides to stay just friends
no nudity (probably biggest factor)
male MC is just a typical pervert with no balls to do anything despite girl being all over him
yea the whole show is basically the Japanese sucking their own dick, telling the audience that they have the "best food" and "best craftsman", while showing basically every other country, especially the US as sneaky and horrible. I physically cringed every time they said something about how "superior the Japanese _______ is".
it was almost like watching every single american movie or american tv show ever created.
especially millitary movies... ******* battleship is about america single handedly taking down an alien invasion with ships.
What? There were sneaky assholes in the Japanese government too in Gate, just like in the Russians and US, and mostly every time they compare anything it's a comparison between 'beyond the gate' and Japan.
I simply couldn't continue watching this show because of her. the pandering was so unbelievably strong from her that it ruined a plot I thought was pretty cool. Got like 8-9 episodes in before I just couldn't bear more loli trash.
'oh the dragons and military of this entire world is absolutely nothing before our modern technology. except for this girl she's faster than bullets and an invulnerable half-goddess who goes into ******* heat around fighting and needs to grind on the MC for awhile' totally fits with the rest of the show.
Does the show ever redeem itself from this black hole of a character?
