but wait. that IS a lamia. nagas and lamias are just two similar creatures from two separate mythos archetypes. lamia is a specific person from greek mythology who was condemed by the gods to have her legs and waist wrapped in snake skin and devour children. THE lamia are a group of monsters that are seen as her decedents and take after her traits. also they are all female.

nagas are from hinduism. in hinduism they have 2 or 3 seperate sources. the most wide spread as far as religion and such goes would probably be the idea that nagas are nature spirits that bring water, but this includes good water such as rains and rivers as well as bad water related situations like floods and draught. their origin that i am choosing from would be when an ascetic Jaratkaru married the snake goddess manasa and produced a half snake child who was destined to be the savior of both snakes and men. his descendants are known as the naga which i think just translates 1 to 1 as snake. naga can be either man or female while lamia are restricted to female.



seeing as miia specifically stated that there are only females of her species and male snake people dont exist, it can be assumed that the idea of miias species is derived mainly from the greek idea of a snake person, namely Lamia.

Main different between them from what I can remember is a lamia is able to shapeshift into a human while a naga can't due to nagas being people who are part snake part human while lamias are cursed people turned into part monsters by spiteful gods.
Which is why Lamias in other instances can have half lion bodies and other **** .
Snake bitch in the anime is a naga unless she's actually a human who was cursed, I dunno I don't watch haremtrash.

though in some stories she's Lamia just means Drakaina (human/snake hybrids)

While in greek mythology Lamia had human legs, and only snake skin around midrift, and a messed up face (according to greek historian Diodorus) John Keats' popular poem Lamia in 19th century depicted her with lower body of a snake, and that is how Lamias are most well known today.
To be fair, descriptions of monsters and beings are not exactly consistent in Greek mythology, and she WAS a drakaina.

He is also partially right partially wrong on the Naga.
Naga means cobra in hindu, and Naga deities are serpentine. But they don't all have lower body of a snake. For example Manasa has snakes coming out of her head, Phaya Naga is a snake with five human heads, Mucalinda is a massive give headed cobra that can assume human form.

tl;dr he is as wrong and right as the anime is about lamias, and about as much wrong as he is right about nagas.

Actually...according to the original Greek myth, Lamia was a mistress of Zeus (1 of how many?), and Hera killed all her kids and turned her into a child devouring monster. Some interpretations of the original myth have her with a serpent's tail below the waist (i.e., half woman, half snake).

Nagas are, according to the original Buddhist and Hindu, a deity that takes the form of a great serpent. In fact, Naga, in Sanskrit, literally means "Cobra".
