>calling yourself an otaku

why not just call yourself a weeaboo while you're at it?

there is a difference between otakus and weeaboos you do know that right?
#15 to #13 - alleksi ONLINE (10/07/2013) [-]
that doesn't make calling yourself 'an otaku' any less ridiculous.

well pretty much those who go to cons and watch and nothing else are otakus but weeaboos dress up all the time and try to fit japanese in to every conversation. its not ridiculous to call myself an otaku since thats what i am i enjoy anime a lot but i would not go and dress up everyday and try to speak japanese

I still think it's a stupid word to describe yourself. like...what's the point...? why not just say "hey I like anime".

it's kinda like this I'm a NERD culture that's been going on these days. It's ******* stupid. Why can't you just, you know, enjoy anime without wanting some kind of a label on your forehead?

not to mention 'otaku' has a more negative connotation than anything else.

because there is a difference in severity between what constitutes, or at least what people refer to as being an "otaku" and just liking anime.

If you are something, refusing to call yourself it because it has negative connotations just means you are too self-conceited to actually take pride in who you are.

I for one will proudly say that I'm an otaku, a nerd, a no-lifer, an aspie (and thus a retard).
The negative connotations of those words don't define me. Those qualities don't change the fact that I'm ******* awesome or the fact that I have my **** enough together that I was able to save a girl's life yesterday, rather they are the cause of that because without them, I would no longer be myself.

Cherish any labels you can be given, for even if they don't define who you are, they still make up part of your identity.

I don't like to label myself, not because it has negative connotations, but because it gives people preconceptions of me. if I say "I'm 'x' " people start to associate things with me that stereotypical x's do/have, and that's stupid. I don't call myself anything. I play games but I don't call myself a gamer. I watch anime but I don't call myself an otaku. I do "nerdy/geeky" stuff but I don't call myself a nerd/geek because that's stupid.
