It's because the author is also the artist (Kentaro Miura) he uses traditional methods to draw each panel, and he's kind of a perfectionist, also he is almost 50, but I'm sure he knows where the story is going. Heck if it takes a year for each chapter to be released it still is worth it since Berserk is so good.

kinginthenorth (01/10/2016) [-] It's become a joke that every time an Idolmster game comes out, Berserk goes on Haitus. But they either speculate that he still doesn't know what to do with the story or he's lost the will to work on it. Either way the current haitus is because of the anime coming out. "Resuming Summer 2016!". I read it in 3 days, so not nearly enough time until then.
