How did that missile not hit any of the seagulls in the way?

If it did, it wouldn't explode anyway, it would just punch right through them. Plus, missiles move way faster in reality than they do in media.

Even if it did, would it change anything?

Absolutely. The missile being fired appears to be a variant of an FIM-92 Stinger, which uses an optical seeker. A bird hitting the optical seeker means the seeker will probably be destroyed, damaged, or covered in residue, and unable to correctly function. A glancing blow could also damage the fin system.

As for speed, peak for that missile system is around Mach 3. Against a target probably at mach .80, it would still take a few seconds to reach out and hit the target. The problem is newton's first law of motion, you know, "an object at rest stays at rest, unless acted on by a force". Essentially, the missile, traveling at roughly mach 3, hitting a bird.

On the one hand, you have a 22lb missile, roughly traveling mach 3. On the other hand, you have an object that weights 2-4lbs traveling at 0. The missile is going to impact the gull with a ******* tremendous amount of force, causing it to basically explode. On the other hand, that same amount of force is being applied to the front of the missile, which could lead to the seeker head breaking, or a loss of signal.

Tl;DR: Seagull has mass, missile+seagull=force. Force=exploding seagulls, damaged missile. Damaged missile doesn't seek well.

Yeah, but the seagal is a small object made of bones and flesh, not Hard metals.
The seagal would get literally teared in all places and the missile would go into its course.
We used some missiles in the army (mandatory 12 month military service over here and i was trained at AT T.O.W both ground on a tripod and Mounted on Vehicle.

Although that weapon does use entirely different types of missiles, and is Laser/Wired Controlled the missile can take bigs amount of force without changing its course.

I dont know what the missile used in the anime is so i cant argue with your statement,i just expected not to make any difference in its course and that it could take a punch from a seagul.

That logics cool and all, but this bird is *also* made from flesh and bone, not hard metals. That elevator is made of aluminum with an aerodynamic shape that can withstand 300mph+. Yet you apply some of that soft flesh and bone to it, and that happens.

As for the TOW missile, the setup is different. The tow is ground/wire controlled, meaning a birdstrike may be slightly less incidental. The missile would be set off course, and put back by the operator, so long as the carcass does not damage a guidance fin.

Now i'm not saying the missile would be knocked off course. What i am saying is, the seeker head is optical, meaning if something breaks the line of sight, like say seagull feathers/blood/carcass, it stops seeking. Alternatively, if you apply enough force on the head, theres crush force on the fuselage of the thing. Apply enough force, you skew the tracking, and you could have a miss. Skew it more, and it aerodynamically will not fly anymore. In other words, the amount of force applied by the bird-missile collision could crush parts of the missile and boom, missile stops flying.
