I'm just generally wondering, why do so many anime's have such choppy animation? Like, they seem to use a little over 2 frames for the mouth animation, really bad moving animations, etc. Is that just a fad? Or is Japan just really lazy.

It's mainly budget constraints. Unless they're expecting big things from the show (or were lucky enough to get good backing) they just aren't given enough money to cover everything. So most of the time little things like someone's mouth moving in an unimportant scene will be chopped to save up for the climaxes.

Upvote for the only real answer in this entire thread.

Nichijou has excellent production quality. Just wanted to note that, because it's amazing.

Well sooooooorry that animators don't want to animate 43 face muscles for every single frame. If they did that, one episode would come out every 4 years

Why do you think boobs are so big in animes? It's called strategic diversion.
