The original Dragonball was and still is my favorite. Well, after the first martial arts tournament it is. It just generally has a feel good mood, and goku isn't rediculously strong yet.

Plus they got away with much more adult situations.

Even though people die in DBZ, I would say that it is one of the best shows for kids to watch. It's about working hard, redemption, forgiveness and offering second chances, and over-coming the seemingly impossible. Not many kids shows display these values while not being preachy/boring at the same time.

Yes, but when K-on has more development in 36 episodes then DBZ has in 291, something went horribly wrong.

Shounens usually don't have extreme character development (Gurren Laggan being a known exception), rather they go for the power of believing in yourself cliché while continuously becoming more overpowered. That being said, different animes have different purposes. I like DBZ.

The problem is not that there's no plot and character development but that there are hundreds of series that does it better.

Wait, so you honestly believe that since you think other series do it better, than it's a fact?

i noticed that goku and vegeta are the same duality as naruto and sasuke. not that it's good or bad, i just got into anime and noticed it.
