Windows 8 is pretty good. IMO it's better than 7, because of quicker boot time, smoother loading, general debloating of the OS, and it's pretty, and lightweight, with all the power of the other Windows OSs.

I have Windows 8 because it came with my new computer. It's really not as bad as they said. I was thinking about being butthurt and complaining to my parents that "I DON'T WANT WINDOWS 8 CUZ IT SUKS" but I really couldn't say that since I've never used it before, like many people who complain about Windows 8.

Really, the only difference to me from Windows 7 is that there's a much faster start-up time. I spend all my time in desktop mode, which really means I never use the start menu. It's a waste, but I can't help it.

It does have its cons, like how pictures and PDF files load in full screen with no window, so it's kind of annoying to go back and forth from desktop to pictures. Also, the layout is confusing when you first try out the computer, like how switching windows requires you to go to the upper left corner of your screen and click.

I also dislike how I have to press ctrl+alt+delete to get to the place where I shut down the computer, but I just created a shortcut on my task bar in order to shut down more quickly.

Yes, I am an "uber casual pc user". I don't play many games besides Minecraft and TF2, and I primarily use my computer to just browse the internet. Windows 8 wouldn't be a good gaming computer system at all, but it suits me just fine. I don't know too much about computers anyway.

tl;dr It's really not that bad, and there's no need to bash it just because you heard it was the worst thing since iPhone 5 or something. It just may not suit your needs.

I don't know why your pictures/PDFs open in Metro mode, mine open with the regular software. Probably a default setting from your computer.

Also, hover your mouse to the upper right corner, hit settings, power, and there's your shutdown.

go home, you are drunk. How could anything closed source be better than Win7? Oh, right, you're one of those ubercasual pc users.

It's alright, but it's not good if you're on a desktop.
Indeed, it's fast, and it's pretty nice to use it on my laptop, but on a desktop, imagine having to move the mouse all over your screen just to go to the start menu - it's a pain in the ass.

It's not as bad as all the butthurt people here say. They've probably never tried it and just being ignorant as usual. From my experience, it's nice, and a lot faster than win 7 in many areas, especially boot.

That's why with many new (late 2012 and younger) desktops now, they come equipped with touchscreens. Also it will be fantastic with the new Leap 3D motion sensor once that comes out. And yes, it's great for laptops, but I agree with your sentiment about the desktops, although you can simply press the start button to get back to the menu, amd in 7 and XP, it was the same thing, but you move your mouse to the bottom left for the start screen, and your mouse all the way to the right for the search and control panel.

Why not? It's the new XP in my opinion.

Lower compatibility than 7.
Lower hardware efficiency than 7.
Costs more than 7.
The only good way to run it is to use their secondary mode called 'metro' which decreases hardware efficiency even more-so.
Less support available for it. (Windows offers support, but I'm talking about third-parties)
Very little backwards compatibility (with programs that would work in XP/Vista/7)
Is designed more optimally to run on a phone than on a computer. (Proven fact)
The layout in general looks like it was made for retards. (even moreso than vista to XP)

There's a much bigger list but those would be the main. Unless you're a moron who doesn't know how to use a computer then there's no benefit to getting it over 7.
User avatar #359 to #95 - bronynexgen (01/24/2013) [-]
And it's stable. You probably tried the beta, which wasn't so stable.
User avatar #361 to #359 - kiratheunholy ONLINE (01/24/2013) [-]
No, I ran stability tests on a full build of it, thanks...

"Results in battery life?" Okay, come on. Who taught you that hardware efficiency means battery life? I mean performance. You get more performance out of your hardware on windows 7.

Desktop is not like Windows 7 at all, only 'metro' mode is like windows 7, and as said using that mode drastically reduces performance.

Layout is **** , just like 7's layout is **** compared to XP's. They keep making the layouts more retarded with each generation.
User avatar #362 to #361 - bronynexgen (01/24/2013) [-]
I don't know man, metro sounds like the tiles thingy. And you sound like a butthurt hipster to me, lost in the past. But oh well, what can I do.

New thread: How can MS make Windows 8 better? Other than make it more like XP. I have fond memories of it too, but even fonder memories were made in 7. Not Vista, Vista is just, ew.

Yeah, well. It's cool cause I don't need to prove myself to a moron like yourself. The majority of people agree with me and that's all that matters. Forever be lost in your insignificant little opinion. Ciao.
User avatar #367 to #364 - bronynexgen (01/24/2013) [-]
You say you don't need to prove yourself, yet you were the one to challenge Windows 8.
I say, for example, I believe science is a load of hooey, and I don't need to prove myself to blasphemers like you.
Doesn't that sound very alike?
And just because the majority of people in this one corner of the internet agree with you, doesn't make your opinion right. Would you consider that the vast majority of people in southeast United States right, since they agreed that God created the world in six days, and they called that fact, without checking the other side of the argument?

That proves my point, you had no idea what you were talking about in your previous statement.

User avatar #358 to #95 - bronynexgen (01/24/2013) [-]
It's compatible with everything Vista and younger.
It's much more efficient, you can see the results in your battery life.
The desktop is just like Windows 7, except with a few minor changes.
The search is simple and easy.
The phone/Tablet runs Windows 8 RTM. Optimized for that environment.
Less support because it's much newer than Windows 7.
Costs more because it's newer than Windows 7.
And the layout is retarded if you don't take the time to learn it. If you don't want to learn how to get around your computer, but just want it to work then go with a mac, or stay with your outdated software.
#372 to #358 - yellowjack (01/25/2013) [-]
Win7 is about the best OS microsoft has made. It does everything I want and I have the freedom to torrent and mod **** . Win8 is like that by the book prick who wants to believe he does nothing wrong while snitching on what you do. I'd really have Win7 with its flaws and "slowness" over Win8. I do more with my computers than surf facebook. I want flexibility and control over my machine. Win8 is pretty much Windows take on Mac OSes. Win7 works damn good for me and I am content. Win8 is just Microsoft being butthurt that people pirate **** .
User avatar #374 to #372 - bronynexgen (01/25/2013) [-]
I can pirate just as well on Windows 8. Since I am a bit broke, I pirate most of my games, except for the ones that I truly believe deserve me to pay for them.
User avatar #376 to #374 - yellowjack (01/25/2013) [-]
as a rule, I never pirate indie games who don't have huge publishers backing the devs.

And... yes I WOULD have stayed with XP cause it was much more stable than 7, unfortunately XP had huge hardware limitations. Thankfully Windows 8 doesn't boast any hardware de-limitations when compared to 7.
