You know, there is no reason for you to define yourself with that word. So what you watch anime, I probably watch enough of american Tv-shows to get some kind of nickname.

Look up the meaning of otaku maybe? I mean there are similar words to that that means that you for example love guns or other stuff that i cant think of at the moment...

My point was that there is no reason to define yourself with that word. Especially if it has a negative connotation like you've found people to have in your case. Something as meaningless as watching anime is far from enough to define a person with. That's why I made the joke with me being an Office-aku.
If the case was that the word was gay or something equivalent, then yes, you should have pride; but I just don't think it's the same with watching Japanese cartoons.
Plus, before you get all pissed of because I called anime a cartoon, I'd like to speak for myself.
Differantiating anime from cartoons is like saying if a Honda is a car, then surely a Subaru can't be a car. If you catch my drift.
My point being that I don't really support the usage of the word.

No, having otaku pride is not like having gay pride in any way. Being gay and enjoying anime are two totally different things. Whereas one is the sexual orientation, the other one is more of a hobby. I play guitar, but that doesn't mean I need to define my personality with that one trait. I wouldn't even call otaku a social stigma

Yes, I am in one way, but it doesn't define me. Saying otaku or guitarist pride is just stupid, because it's just an interest and not a lifechoice.
