I'm going to respectively disagree, while Princess Mononoke was an absolute brilliant film, I personally feel that Laputa: Castle in the Sky was his greatest film. I do think Princess Mononoke takes 2nd however it is very close. Just a matter of personal opinion I guess haha X'D

The main characters are Howl - a guy and Sophie - a girl. I fell in love with Howl, I cried half through the movie, I cheered for Sophie and laughed at Calcifer.

It's really good done and I've seen many Hayao's movies so I can say, to me, this one's one of the best.
Watch it.

26 are his, one is in production. He also made a whole bunch of anime-series but first watch the movies.

YES, definitely yes. start wherever you like, with the first one, the last one, in the middle...
But do get them in original language (japanese, some might be in english...) with english subtitles, some funny lines get lost in translation if you watch them dubbed.

No problem
He's working on The Wind is Rising which is based off his manga with the same name which is in turn based of a novel named The Wind Has Risen. Other than it will be out in fall and the title I do not know but you might wanna research it.

You might wanna know that some movies are adaptations of animes, books... And some are really short so you'll get through them soon

If you want to narrow it down a bit, start with all of his Ghibli Movies. Porco Rosso is probably his most inspired piece.
Heck, all of the Ghibli movies (aside from Tales from EarthSea), whether or not they're directed by Miyazaki, are masterpieces in their own right.

Everything about Howl's is amazing.
The music
The architecture
The themes
It is just a perfect film.
Plus it has Billy Crystal in the English version.

Spirited Away is my second favorite, next comes Princess Mononoke.

Tales from Earthsea was easly the worst ghibli movie, but I think he got better with From Up On Poppy Hill. It's a nice alternative to his father's fantasy movies which he failed to duplicate

I haven't seen that one.

My favourite has to be Whisper of the Heart.

From Up On Poppy Hill is kind of like Whisper of the Heart, except it's set in 60's japan.

I think Poppy Hill showed that Goro Myazaki has some talent, and he's likely to get better as he goes along. To be fair, when he made Earthsea, even Hayao thought he didn't have the experience to do it, and they didn't talk to each other throughout the production.

Goro probably won't reach the same heights as his father, but he is still pretty good for a landscaper.
