Before Japan was exposed to western society, nudity and porn weren't taboo at all. Billboards and TV would openly show a woman breast feeding and nobody thought anything of it. But when the Japanese were exposed to western society, they noticed how westerners visiting Japan were uncomfortable/ignorant to the idea that nudity and such were widely accepted in the general public. The Japanese became very aware of this and one thing that came out of it was the idea to censor dicks.

You're mostly correct: the 'taboo' idea of a naked woman in artwork, or just plain and simply out of a private location, was introduced by the Western society during the Meiji restorative period in Japan. So it was actually the Japanese who found it to be of taboo as opposed to the Western artists who learnt to appreciate that many centuries before. But, times have changed, and that leads to your point in which many (most) Westerners are too ignorant to accept what is natural and that ultimately led to censorship. So while you do indeed provide the end-details it wasn't always like that.

While I don't strictly add anything other than the basis to your already proper post, I felt it was incomplete without the actual introduction of nudity in their artwork.

In edition to mistahlegend. I beleive because of their new custom of censorship, it was no longer allowed to have uncensored pornography. The loophole to this? Tentacle porn.
