My philosophy is that if i show has something good to offer you can enjoy it for what it's worth. It's absolutely aggravating that hipster elitist go on and on about they only like 1 or 2 shows that ever existed ever. Like **** off.
I actually can say for alot of shows (movies and books too) i really can do this. I have great suspension of disbelief while watching things and its really nice to be able to just sit and take something at face value it lets you get pulled along by plot twists you would see coming other wise etc etc
Yep. Urobutcher wrote episode 1 and then ****** off, leaving the rest of the series to trudge along in a cesspool of ********** caused by lesser writers.
If you are attempting to rank harems and your "top tier" is anything except The World God Only Knows reigning over everything with an iron fist, then you're just plain wrong. There may be some that aren't offensive to list within that same tier, like Amagami SS or Bakemonogatari (if you count it, the argument for and against are both strong), but Hanagai and Shuffle are not included.
Haganai is a typical, generic, basic harem hiding behind the flimsy excuse of "our MC is dense and boring ON PURPOSE" that really doesn't deserve more than a tiny bit of extra praise compared to most harem anime series without any semblance of plot, character development, or conclusion. If you are referencing the source material, that is only slightly better than the show because it has an actual ending, of sorts.
Shuffle is also a pretty generic, boring, plain harem, just older than Haganai so it often gets a free pass. Boring, slapstick comedy, clumsy fanservice, all the female characters are essentially the same save the little girl (because she's even more boring than the rest) and the green hair girl (because she's slightly more upbeat than the rest). At least Shuffle has an ending and a "winning" girl, but is it really worth treading through the swamp of harem comedy, drama, and 'romance' (if you can call it that) mediocrity to get to that point? It's not even a particularly good ending, the MC just finally decided "well, I might as well pick one of these girls" and then went with it.
Yep, but a **** ending is still slightly better than a harem that continues for an indefinite amount of time with nothing happening for all of eternity. Because at least a bad ending to a bad show puts a limit to the suffering.
