Yeah Gintama is really good, it has a slow start but I assure you the later episodes are 10x better

when does it start getting better? I'm up to the 60's and its still a lot of slapstick comedy, the benizakura arc was good but short

That's kind of hard to say, most episodes of Gintama is episodic and even with the arcs they are pretty short. It's an anime that is fairly inconsistent with the quality. That being said, 60+ episodes is where it does start to get good (contradicting, I know), I would suggest watching these episodes and skipping what I didn't include: 69-71 (Fuyo arc), 76-81 (Yagyu Arc), 86 and 87 (Okita's sister arc), 88-163, 165-172, 177-188, 190-201 and all of the 5th Gintama season (Gintama')

I may take your advice here. Tried watching it once, but i can't stand japanese comedy.
