Blue Exorcist
Reminds me of FMAB, lovely characters; main male character gets over his past. Awesome (arguably epic) fight scenes) and very beautiful ending.
Death Note
My personal gateway-drug anime. Awesome, likable male main characters, driven by mental battles. Very few physical brawls, and set in 'modern era' (i.e. no swords, dragons, etc.) but stunning genius vs. genius battle and (what I think) detailed, smooth animation. Actually similar to Code Geass in theme, but DN is a darker psychological thriller.
C:Control
Interesting philosophical anime ('philosophical' i.e. conflicting themes, as in Death Note of justice) awesome, unconventional fight scenes, more round characters, something of a full-circle ending
Shiki
For the vampire/zombie fans! But not primarily romance as in Vampire Night, etc. Portrays vampires in the most realistic light I have yet seen. Also 'philosophical' in the survival theme.
Bakemonogatari (w/ sequel Nisemonogatari)
'Aquired taste' anime; roughly fits 'harem' anime category, but art and cut scenes make it extremely unique and entertaining. No real linear plot, and mostly driven by character interaction/dialogue. The few fight scenes are pretty epic, though. However, don't be expecting too much 'sense' or hot-blooded protagonists. (op content is actually screenshot from the sequel ^)
Madoka Magica
I promise you it is not a remake of Sailor Moon or something. Cool collage-esqe art, awesome fight scenes, also later 'philosophical'. I won't say too much, but watch it for the emotional factor.
Another
Definitely horror/psychological thriller. Very Final-Destination, very gruesome but very awesome. Some mystery-novel elements.
Mirai Nikki
This anime brought to you by one of the greatest examples of 'yasundere'. Seriously, the anime make me severely uncomfortable throughout, but it is extremely addicting. Awesome plot and stunning ending. Much emotional wrenching that leaves you empty.
I hope that helped!

Great to hear! I enjoyed that one too! :D
I always feel empty and enter and obsessive phase after finishing a particularly awesome anime (which is true for Mirai Nikki, Death Note, etc)
*Spoilers up ahead*
To be completely honest though, even though I /loved/ the characters, I think the themes within the plot was kind of muddled. As in, MN was a great anime in that it can twist my emotions like that, but I feel that Yukki never successfully grew a spine, and how/why he fell in love with Yuno was never thoroughly demonstrated. Yukki just alternated between loving and being scared shitless of Yuno and then suddenly 14-yr-old sex scene. I absolutely love the twist in the end, but I think Aru was introduced too late to compete with Yuno, and there was very minimal character development.
I dunno, maybe it's just that MN was the first anime I've seen yet w/ a yandere.
Still, amazing anime with a stunning soundtrack. To you personally I would recommend Shiki ^_^ (given that you actually read this far).

Deadman Wonderland's manga is much better than the anime though. You can read it on mangareader
