I went through the entire series and teared up at time but didn't really break down into a full out cry until this scene.

Clannad is the Romance story that Chick Flicks wish they could be. It makes grown men cry to such a degree that they won't even bother to hide it: but rather display those tears with pride.

Clannad won't make you cry if you are very critical when watching things, or if you are watching the series already knowing what will happen and purposely trying not to cry.

Also the first season isn't THAT sad, Clannad After Story is just like an explosion of emotions though.

It can't really be explained without detracting from it.
It is about a highschool (almost) dropout from a bad home and a shy sickly baker's daughter who has been held behind a year because of her frequent sickness. These two start a drama club and eventually fall in love and decide to get married after they graduate. In the after-story it is all about the birth of the child and the father's struggle after his wife dies.

That is a very vague and general overview, there are other thing such as the ghost of Fuko Ibuki who was a student at the school but got involved in an accident and is now in a coma. She sits in a classroom on her own a lot of the time carving stars that are invitations to her sister's wedding. Her sister was a former teacher at the school.

Other times it is general school life where Tomoya Okazaki (Main guy) And Nagisa Furukawa (Main girl) build relationships with a variety of characters; including a teenage genius, who spends a lot of her time in the library, a student council president who can beat the crap out of anyone, and a pair of twins who are almost polar opposites. There is tension later in the series as it is revealed that a few of the girls like Tomoya.

Then there's Youhei Sunohara..... He's Tomoya's best, and equally delinquent, friend. He gets his ass beat a lot. It's quite funny. (Pic related)

I doubt I've put it in a good way, but I do recommend that you check it out. It is humorous at times, then there are the heartfelt moments. It is one of my favourite Animes.
