Imagine, that managers responsible for accepting localisations are probably grown-ass men. Grown-ass men whose outlook on world is, surprisingly, quite limited and ignorant. They sit comfortably in their armchairs, stuffing their faces with pizza, counting cash flowing into their pockets in their comfortable, sheltered lives. This is their world, that's all they know - they manage companies, not watch anime.
Now ask yourself: How likely it is for such people to tell their employees "No way people would recognise rice balls, that's some weird eastern food, make it donuts."?
If that's not the fault of place they were brought up in, then I don't know what is.

Everyone knows brits have fish and chips, how is it any harder to know that in japanese people have rice balls? Apparently not that hard, since everyone is mocking these goofy translations, right? Then who greenlights such nonsense?

So they're pretty easy to make. I've made em before, and they're nothing special.
You HAVE to constantly dampen your hands, though. Otherwise the hands will dry out your hands. If the rice isn't sticking together, your hands are too dry. Also keep in mind whatever you wash your hands with, the taste WILL transfer. avoid using soap, or wash your hands about 10-15 minutes before.

basically the guys who made the original one did such a bad job that they went bankrupt, when they sold the dubbing rights to a company they just told them to do whatever the **** they want. so they did.

Compared to pretty much every other Ghibli movie, it was too whimsical and childish without much emotion.
It was still good and I could definitely see it being many people's favorite movie, but I personally didn't much care for it. Even if it had Liam Neeson and Betty White.

My favorites are Howl's Moving Castle and, for whatever strange reason because it's probably the only Ghibli movie without anything supernatural, From Up On Poppy Hill. They're really great.
Just uh... I don't know if you've seen them, but Grave of the Fireflies and Tales From Earthsea were just... just awful. I remember when I watched Tales From Earthsea and had no idea what the **** was going on. Like, it starts with some dragons fighting, but then dragons are only mentioned like twice until the very end when OH MY GOD THE LITTLE GIRL WAS A DRAGON THE WHOLE TIME FOR SOME ******* REASON . Also I had no idea what the "antagonist's" plan (or gender) was but I just wanted it dead.
Whatever, those first two I mentioned are amazing and now I really want to watch From Up On Poppy Hill again. The first time I watched it I enjoyed it so much that I watched it a second time immediately after. No other movie or anything has ever done that for me.
