Why is it that the best anime get one, maybe two seasons max (12-24 eps), but all the average/generic anime run for endless seasons ?

Examples: Kampfer (1 season)
Oreimo (2 seasons)
Air Gear (2 seasons)
Rosario Vampire (2 seasons)
Sekirei (2 seasons)
Elfen Lied (1 season)

I'm not saying shows like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and Death Note are bad. I'm just saying that there are better shows that should be extended rather than the ones currently being mass-produced.

inb4 red thumbs for not saying that DBZ/One Piece/Death Note/Naruto are the best anime ever produced, but the majority of those fanboys have never watched anything that wasn't dubbed into english and on Cartoon Network.

shounen type mangas are supposed to run near endlessly

but the bad thing is very few of them actually stay good after +150 episodes(from the ones you namened the only one i still like after 100 episodes is one piece(never watched more than one episode of dbz...and one fight...)

The ending is what made them the "best."
If, say, Elfen Lied went on for as long as Naruto, it wouldn't be Elfen Lied anymore, it'd probably look more like Inuyasha; Much longer than was needed.

Guess what? All that shows you mentioned are pretty generic, average and full of stamps too, except maybe elfen lied (for its time)

Because they were made for export.

I think the reason shorter anime series' tend to be better is because the writers keep the series' short enough that they don't run out of ideas and, thus, don't have to resort to filler in order to keep the show alive for the purpose of milking as much money out of it as possible.

But death note is only one season (37 ep.) It's not that long.

A season is typically 12 episodes, and thats what I'm measuring by, so by that measurement DN is 3 seasons.
