<centaurs, I believe would pump their arms back and forth as humans do. The action should help them breath better by manually forcing the lungs open and shut to a small degree by the surrounding tissues movements. Of course this is just theory, as magical beasts they may not have lungs, or use the upper chest cavity for other purposes and use the chest cavity in the lower horse part for their internal organs and the upper part have no "normal" organs.
