Laxus’ first appearance in the manga shows him as a smoker with metal greaves and a cape like the world's ******** budget superhero. He was later made to look like a "gangster" with a large frilled coat but managed to look like a pimp, the smoking was omitted.
Gajeel's name comes from Japanese word "Kajiru" meaning to bite, gnaw or nibble. The Ka was changed to Ga because Gaji Gaji sounds like a person eating (obviously according to Japanese people because who the **** makes a gaji gaji noise when eating).
