In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Boingo uses a stand which can predict the future and oddly seems to "predict" 9/11. You can see a laughing plane and a man with "911" on his shirt. In the 2015 anime the plane is still there but the "911" was removed. Hirohiko Araki, author of JoJo, when questioned was shocked and said that he couldn't remember why he drew it that way it.

Nonon Jakuzure from Kill la Kill was originally supposed to have an electric guitar and a punk rock look, the creators scrapped it thinking it would be too much and ended up sticking with a school theme resulting in a marching band look. She would've used guitar riffs instead of classical music.

There's a reference to the film "Shaun of the dead" in High School of the Dead, a character resembling the main character Shaun is seen in a shop with a cricket bat, Shaun's weapon, behind him. The character's name tag says Simon after the actor Simon Pegg who plays Shaun in the film.
