Ichigo's name is pretty punny, the "ichi" from his name means one in Japanese whilst the "go" means five making one-five, this is referenced in episode 113 where you can see a sign on his bedroom door saying "15", he was also 15 when Bleach began. Ichigo claimed his name comes from "ichi" meaning first prize and "go" for guardian angel however his father told him his name means "he who protects", Ikkaku Madarame also said men whose name contains "ichi" are often powerful and talented. Depending on which kanji is used, Ichigo's name can mean "strawberry" which led Jidanbo Ikkanzaka to say Ichigo has a cute name and is also why Mashiro Kuna nicknamed him "Berry-tan". Lastly Yuzu and Karin Kurosaki sometimes call Ichigo, "Ichi-nii" or "Ichi-nii-san" which is a pun meaning 1-2 and 1-2-3 respectively.

Many fans criticise Kubo for incredibly slow pacing, the 3 most criticised arcs are "Invading Army", "Bount" and "Arrancar", the first two are anime-only which Kubo had no involvement with. Kubo planned for the Arrancar arc to be much shorter but the editors at Shueisha pushed him to give more attention to the Arrancar and Espada, both of which were popular hits with the fans.
