Jesus where to start... well I've watched a good sum of anime myself but I suppose to save both of us time I'll state my favourite and second favourite anime of each genre: Action - 1. Darker Than Black (This show is absolutely mind blowingly awesome!) 2. Full Metal Alchemist (This is a must watch for any anime lover, it was my starter anime as well!) Romantic Comedy - 1. School Rumble (I honestly never stopped laughing!) 2. Ouran High School Host Club (A fantastic twist on reverse harem animes!) Boobs - 1. Sekirei (Fighting and Boobs YAY!) 2. Cat Planet Cuties (Alien Cat Girls and lots of Guns? Um... yes!) Unique - 1. Spice and Wolf (This show breaks the boundaries of those aforementioned genres, it has comedy and some action, but that's not really it's main focus.) Might I add that all these animes are available in english, that's what I watched them in.

Do you have a MyAnimeList or something? That would make it easier. In order of action (shounen) shows which I enjoyed the most:

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Hunter x Hunter (2011), Fate/Zero, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Fairy Tail (doubt you haven't heard of it), D.Gray-man

here's a list and the numbers are a somewhat ranking.

4=Hunterxhunter(2011) (action)
5=toradora (romance/comedy/drama)
2=Spice and wolf (economics/comedy/romance/drama) (slow but great)
1=mahou shoujo madoka magica (action/drama) (trust me on this one i didn't think id like it until i finally watched it)
7=Jormungand (action/drama)
6=guilty crown (action/drama/romance) (people seems to either love or hate this one)
3=Angel beats (action/drama/comedy)
10=elfen lied(action/drama)
9=[C]: Control - The Money of Soul and Possibility (drama/action)
8=Btooom! (action/drama/romance)

i just sort of listed a bunch of good ones the ranked them. beyond one and two standing a bit out the rest are all really close in how good they are.

Here's my list of highly recommended anime. Anime at the top are manly, but the further down you go the less manly they will be.

Code Geass (MUST WATCH)
Elfen Lied
Evangelion 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, and 4.0 (3.0 BD coming soon, 4.0 is yet to be released)
Accel World (if you liked Sword Art)
Full Metal Panic! (Recommended for pretty much all audiences)
Angel Beats (a gateway into romantic-influenced anime. Lots of action early on)
Toradora! (Hilarious Romantic Comedy if that's your bag)
Clannad (will make you pop an artery laughing, then will degrade you to a living sack of tears)

Also, not "recommended" per se, but something you should definitely see or at least know about. It's quite unique:

try out s-cry-ed it has shonen to feel to it, pretty quick too only around 25 episodes
