thats because a broadsword is ridiculously robust compared to a katana, the katana is famous because its so sharp can cut through multiple bodies in a single blow.
comparing it to a broadsword its like saying a cheetah isnt awesome because it cant eat an elephant

That hamon line looks very fake. The manner in which the blade failed appears correct though. Perhaps it's a laminate blade rather than a clay-tempered blade. Also, this blade has a grove which weakens the blade. It's hard to tell for sure, but the grove suggests that this is a sword with a grind specialized for light or medium density targets, rather than the ultra-heavy target it is being used on here. A different katana could do much better than this.

In any case, it is certainly true that any katana made by any traditional method would not be able to cut cleanly through a broadsword without (at least) significant damage.

mythbusters tried to cut a sword with another sword, it couldn't be done.

Hmm the folding process would make the blade better but I think a sword made of Damascus steel could hold out against a Katana

Katanas were made for the sole purpose of cutting living tissue and are poorly suited to any kind of sword-on-sword contact. As far as steel quality goes, I would still have to favor the katana. Damascus is the best for a monosteel sword, but the Japanese did not limit themselves to making their swords from only one type of steel. The edge is made of harder material, while the back and core is softer to prevent breakage and allow some flexibility. Many swordsmiths also included a medium material to improve the harmonics of the blade (this was more common in laminate blades).

Also, Damascus katanas have become popular. They still differentially temper them for the benefits of traditional Japanese steel -- they are spectacularly good.

Interesting, I would have to still go with the Damascus sword because of just the sheer power to blade ratio and the process by witch the steel was folded and rapidly cooled resulting in a stronger more ridged blade. Now im not looking down on the strength of a katana or how it is made im just saying for that certain engagement I would rather have the Damascus Sword.

In a fight against an armed opponent, I would also go with a damascus blade. Katanas were made with the assumption that the opponent was either unarmed or had not yet had time to draw their own sword. Very early katanas were an exception (used in outright war), but otherwise, japanese swords fair poorly in swordplay. Their shape, single edge, brittleness (on the edge), and small guard are severe disadvantages. Also, the polish (the source of their insane cutting ability) would be severely damaged. A katana used in swordplay would quickly become unuseable.
