Meant mostly for beginners, but it could come in handy for everyone. Yes, some of the choices are far from perfect. I try to compromise between accessibility for beginners and quality. For example, I threw away few popular, but not really that good series (SAO, AgK, Naruto), but there's definitely few questionable, niche choices that not everyone will appreciate (Symphogear, Samurai Flamenco, Kaiba). After your feedback in the comments it became apparent that I made some mistakes and bad judgement calls. This will be fixed in the 3.0 version in a few months. Thanks for your feedback.

"You What!?" pretty much sums up JoJo's. Its a pretty great couple of years for crazy over the top Animes. OPM, JoJos, Space Dandy.

OPM contains a lot of satirical elements about its genre. So it doesn't make sense as a casual anime, since for the full effect you'd need to understand what it's making fun of. That's like watching Scary Movie with never having seen a horror movie

Agreed. Animes that acknowledge the context of their medium are pretty cool. Breaking the 4th wall, stuff like that. Its not something that just everyone "gets," which can significantly detract from the experience.

i think casual a pretty ****** way to define a genre of anime.

like casual can be broad. does the original poster mean casual as in the opposite of formal or casual as an insult typically meaning the opposite of hardcore. formal and hardcore aren't the same thing.

and then how do you objectively define anime that is formal verse hardcore? personally i would say formal anime is any anime that isn't funny or humorous. then i would define hardocre anime as any sub genre of anime that takes that genre to the extreme.

if i had to define OPM i would put it in either action or comedy but probably action. since you know, the show is about a guy who punches things.

You're right. I had no idea I was in for the most over-hyped **** anime series I've ever seen. They ran out of budget 2/3 of the way through the series and it shows. I've heard the rebuilds and End of Evangelion make up for it, but the series alone is trash after that 2/3 mark. Before that it was alright with occasional good parts.

IMO the mid-90's Japan obsession with Gundams ruined a lot of anime for me. Space Dandy and Gueren Laggan are great despite of the massive robots, not because of them. The only good Gundam anime is the one that doesn't take itself serious. Evangelion is not that. Its the epitome of "anime is trash" argument. It makes me upset how many giant robots there are in Anime.

I almost didn't watch Xam'd based on gundams, and that show is ******* beautiful.

im just going to have to defend evangelion simply because i am a big lover of it.
in my opinion the series is great, however, i like to think of it as a clearance to watch end of evangelion. I believe that the whole reason to watch the show, is to watch end of evangelion. I had a friend who watched end of evangelion first after it was recommended to them, and they said they liked it. However they also said after watching the series, and watching end of evangelion, everything made much more sense, and they could understand things better.
I haven't watched the rebuilds, so I can't say anything about that.
If you have the time, power through those last episodes, and watch EoE

While reading this my only thoughts were "Pft, casuals." and "There's a manga that's waaaaaaaaay better than that.". Amazing. My taste is absolute **** and yet I still feel like I'm better than everyone here.

FMA Brotherhood is my favorite anime of all time. I tried watching the original one but I stopped at episode 13 because it's **** compared to Brotherhood.

brotherhood COVERS more story, but overall, it isn't done as well. the STORY is better in brotherhood, but that's about it.... it feels rushed at times, and it feels like it was made to mirror the manga for mirroring's sake alone.

Brotherhood is more fast paced and was more interesting by sticking to the story of the manga and not to mention all the cliffhangers at the end of each episode.

It's an improved version of the original.
The original was just mostly filler.

Nope, already from the first episodes it's different and the anime original differs from the manga really early, I can't remember where it was because it has been around 10 years now but I think it started to make it's own story soon after they finish training with their master . While they still managed to create a pretty good story, which had some great twists, it doesn't compare to brotherhood. Also, while they have extremely different roles all characters I remember from FMA exist in FMA:B.

If one were to compare them I wouldn't mind calling FMA **** , but comparing it with what else is out there it's really good.
