one of my friends told me I should forego getting my first car and buy a bike instead
I was putting at least a little thought into it but then I see **** like this and I wonder why I'd ever want to leave the warm, welcome arms of public transportation
i bought a bike instead of a car and never regretted the decision. I only really use it for commuting which is great cus traffic becomes less of an issue. I say take the leap bruh!
******** . Organ donor types are A) people who completely suck @ riding a bike and they refuse to accept it and resign. B) (the bigger part) pepole who ride like mad men without thought of other people or safety. The types that swoosh trough the city on one wheel @ 150 mph. Not much daredevils (as they like to think) but just egocentric dick-thinking morons and idiots. In many European countries you can take a drivers exam for the most powerful machines only after you're 24 but that doesn't help much...besides: is a formula 1 car street legal? So why moto GP bikes are?
Then there's a huge group of people who drive carefully at reasonable speeds just for the fun and all sorts of freedom that comes with riding a bike. I have a very weak motorcycle (125cc) but that's more than I need because I don't need to go 100 mph + (It's very uncomfortable too to go faster than that). Hell, I don't even have the need to go past 80 mph. And a rush hour traffic jam in a city isn't much on an issue since lane sharing is legal. Imagine NEVER being stuck in traffic. Yeah. There's a lot of folks like me.
Situations like in this GIF are so rare that they become internet famous. Besides, a cow going through your windshield and pressing you against the chair is far more dangerous than a cow pushing you back of a motorcycle IMO.
BTW you know what statistics say about who the most dangerous road user is? 30 something saleswoman who sucks @ driving everything including tricycle but got their drivers lincense because job demands it. Not only a terrible driver but on her phone at all times. It's a statistic taken from a first hand: cases of traffic accidents in ER.
Hitting deer is my biggest fear.
I live in Montana, they walk around town like they own the place.
They're downtown, on campus, in the parking lot at work.
If i didn't know any better i'd say they were out to get me
My dad hit one going 55 on the highway recently. Snapped the front suspension like a twig and destroyed the fender and the deer's spine on impact. He was wearing riding boots, full padded riding suit and gloves, but no helmet. Ended up sliding about 100 feet and rolling into a ditch. Injuries were massive bruising to the torso, a little bit of road rash where the suit was torn away, and a permanent loss of movement of his left foot. No idea how the last injury occurred, but he basically can't raise his foot upwards anymore.
Tldr: Jeans aren't adequate safety apparel for a motorcycle. They'll be shredded as fast as your bare skin will when you're sliding down the road. Wear proper gear and ride responsibly and you ought to be okay. Wear flipflops, a sleveless shirt, and jeans while riding 120 down the highway at 5AM and you'll probably make a nice red stain on the asphalt.
My teacher told my class this story of his friend who was riding his motorcycle at night somewhere going around 100 mph, maybe more. A deer jumped into the road and he hit it without slowing down and bike just split the deer in half. The guy was okay, but was covered in blood.
Yeah, that's not true, sorry. They tested it, it's impossible. Maybe, just MAYBe a really tough bike would cut through a deers lower half but deer are too big (high) for it to work. right where the most of a deers mass starts a motorcycle ends an a rider starts vertically. The actual human takes almost all of the blow, especially when a deer is mid-jump. It's survivable but not without serious injuries.
