That's what you get for running a ship on something shat out by Microsoft. Don't even think about switching to Apple either.

Blue screen is a generic error its not exclusive to "microsoft"
Blue screen is basically a hardware error or driver crash, but the computer doesnt know which because it could be either to the computer they look the same.

Saying apple doesnt have "bluescreen errors" is basically saying apple doesnt have any component failure which is not only impossible but demonstrably untrue as everyone I have known who has owned a apple computer has had issues with it and needed to get it fixed or replaced eventually.

I said not to even bother with Apple either, but Windows is known to be more likely to crash than Apple. Linux has it's own issues, but it's more likely to warn you about failing hardware, and it can be made extremely stable to the point that the only way to crash it is to damage the RAM or CPU, or run a program with severe memory leaks, which can crash practically anything.

The more people that use Linux, the better it gets, and the more natively supported software there is. There is a lot more good software available on Linux than there was a couple years ago, especially Games. More Windows users just lets Microsoft **** on more people, the people who use it typically have used it their entire lives, and don't have any idea how ****** it is, and since they are already comfortable with Windows then they immediately hate other OSes because they have no idea what they are doing. Sort of like switching from an automatic transmission to a manual one. Manual is better, and more fun, but you have to re-learn how to drive to use a manual. I hated Linux when I first started using it, but I started to like it after I learned my way around, going back to Windows after that was extremely frustrating because I finally had something besides Apple to compare it to, and I didn't like what I saw.

Funny, I use Skype, Steam, Chrome, VLC, Banshee, GIMP, and everything else I need to use with no issues on my Ubuntu install, just like I do on my Windows install. Don't be one of those people. All OS's have their upsides and downsides.

The only blue screens I've ever experienced were because of hardware problems and malfunctions.

Linux will actually warn you about certain things, like failing HDDs, if the drive uses SMART self checking anyways (I have yet to see a modern HDD that doesn't.). Windows will run the drive into the ground without warning you once, I have seen it happen before, and as soon as I plugged the drive into my computer a warning about immanent drive failure popped up immediately, I was still able to keep the disk going long enough to get the personal files off for the person who owned the computer. My Dad, who is far better at Windows than I am has had problems with the BSOD recently, and in the past due to Windows updates, as well as numerous problems with how Windows handles USB and other hardware. I personally haven't had many BSOD problems when I use Windows, but seeing as I avoid using Windows it as much as possible that isn't saying much. In Linux I have had system problems in the past when I mess with things I don't fully understand, when the Arch Linux devs change the core filesystem (rare, but Arch isn't for people that don't want to get their hands dirty) or use poorly written software that has memory leaks, but that's what I signed up for when I decided to use Arch instead of something easy and stable like Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

That's funny, I've never had a software related blue screen that wasn't my fault. Maybe you just need to learn how to take care of your computer.

I haven't experience blue screen crashes with Windows since 98SE.

User avatar #12 to #11 - OtisMcWonderful (12/10/2014) [-]
But what did you do to cause them? The only reason, like 99% of the time, that you get a BSOD is due to end user error.
User avatar #13 to #12 - confusedasian (12/10/2014) [-]
I don't know. That's my problem. To this day I still don't know. I would do what I normally do. Play vidya games and that's all really. Never downloaded anything, aside from pictures and gifs here that I save.
User avatar #14 to #13 - OtisMcWonderful (12/10/2014) [-]
Maybe you added new hardware? Driver issues can cause a BSOD.
User avatar #15 to #14 - confusedasian (12/10/2014) [-]
It was one of those computers you buy already made. I didn't have the knowledge or experience of adding stuff or downloading drivers. Strange mystery.
User avatar #17 to #15 - OtisMcWonderful (12/10/2014) [-]
Do you remember what it said the error was?
User avatar #18 to #17 - confusedasian (12/10/2014) [-]
No, I do remember that when turning on the computer it would force me to do a system recovery, during which it would blue screen, restart my computer, system recovery once more, and all was fine.
User avatar #21 to #18 - OtisMcWonderful (12/10/2014) [-]
Maybe you had bad sectors on your hard drive. If system files are in those bad sectors, it'll definitely cause a crash, then those get moved to good sectors when you do the restore/recovery.

This is just a guess though.

I've had one with Vista piece of **** OS
User avatar #10 to #9 - OtisMcWonderful (12/10/2014) [-]
Honestly, VIsta wasn't that bad, especially after the service packs. It just required higher specs that 1) people upgrading from XP didn't have and 2) manufacturers were unwilling to put in prebuilts. Prebuilts are the majority of the market, and thus, the largest source of "Vista sucks" ******** . Windows 7 is literally Vista with a small handful of optimizations and an updated paintjob.

Did you just avoid using a computer since 2000ish or did you recently work on 98SE and it crashed?
User avatar #50 to #40 - OtisMcWonderful (12/10/2014) [-]
Nope. I used 98SE until 2004ish, then upgraded to XP and used it until 2010, which is when I moved on to 7. I didn't even use any sort of virus protection until 2011.

Just don't be stupid with your PC and everything'll be fine, regardless of your OS.
User avatar #53 to #50 - ninjalllama (12/10/2014) [-]
Alright well you are extremely lucky man, haha i have had so many hardware failures in my life that I have gotten the good old BSOD on like 27 times in my life, this is based only on hardware problems Granted I worked in retail as a technician for a good 5 years in retail where i got all kinds of weird issues but i got faulty ram or HDD's at least three times on my own PC's

98 was solid but XP was gold, sure most of the blue screens i had where on XP but it worked extremely well Better than Vista but windows 7 is King frankly at least from Working experience
User avatar #54 to #53 - OtisMcWonderful (12/10/2014) [-]
As far as hardware, I haven't really had issues. All of my stuff tends to work until I decided to get rid of it. I had a hard drive in my XP machine hit a near solid 10 years of 24/7 use. It was getting slow, but was otherwise fine. So I replaced it and made its platters into coasters.

The only software issues I really remember having with 98SE were driver issues, mainly caused by my GPU, which was a 4MB Trident AGP GPU.

Lucky son of a bitch. Granted, about 90% of BSODs this year have been because 8.1 ****** my drivers and a defective stick of RAM, but the other 10% are all Windows. And don't even get me started on Vista.
User avatar #29 to #28 - OtisMcWonderful (12/10/2014) [-]
I have a different opinion about Vista. See >>#10
#30 to #29 - jakatackka (12/10/2014) [-]
My issue wasn't not meeting hardware requirements (the same laptop ran Windows 7 just fine). My problem was flaky drivers, bizarre permissions issues that required registry editing to install most programs, random DLLs completely missing, and unrepeatable crashes. Was it the worst OS ever made? No, I think Windows ME holds that title. From what I've heard about half of all Vista installs are just fine and the other half are FUBARed. As someone who dealt with a FUBARed install for over three years, I can say that Vista is the worst OS I've ever used.
User avatar #32 to #30 - OtisMcWonderful (12/10/2014) [-]
So why didn't you just reinstall?
