I think IT might soon replace the postal service as the profession with the most murderous reputation.

I know how to use a computer, so somehow that means I qualified to be in IT to my family.

In my former job we had operators and mechanics. The operators knew how to set up the equipment, how to use it effectively, and how to turn the damned things on, but it was the mechs who knew how to fix it when **** broke.
To say that an operator is qualified to be a mechanic because he knows how to use his equipment is pretty damned retarded.

I think that was his point. He is on the operator level, but non-operators assume he is a mech because they do not understand computers.

I actually moved out of the country to get away from this kind of ****. I swear I'm not kidding. I had other reasons too, but the main one is getting away from an army of relatives/friends/etc.s constantly harassing me to fix their ****. And every single time, no matter how I sliced it, I was the bad guy.
I agree to fix it? They **** it up a week later and blame me because I "didn't fix it right".
I say no? They start guilt-tripping me about how they didn't get the education I did and I'm just being mean and selfish and blah blah blah. **** off. I'm 3000 KM away now. Fix your own ****!

why i love IT:
if it's for free, you just tell them how to fix it.
if your getting paid by the hour you can take forever and reinstall stuff with .bat files
if your paid by the service your still getting a ******** of money.
all while playing pokemon.

I work as a help desk technician and one of my coworkers brings a dslite to work everyday and plays Pokemon Gold while diagnosing and fixing customer's problems over the phone. That, or we play age of empires on our network. I mostly play cookie clicker because my computer isn't set up completely, yet.

He mentioned something about browser hijacking, and I've been having an issue I can't seem to fix, tried generally everything, but i have this stupid home page and when I tried to change my homepage to bing, it keeps this one and opens bing in a new tab, literally can't get rid of it. Help?

From what I hear, Bing is better if you know how to use search terms, while Google is better at getting relevant results for sentences or questions.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe I'll give it a try. I guess google is more "human", and works better with common phrases and questions, but I've noticed that when I'm looking for a very specific page using ands and ors and quotation marks and all that, it's hard to find it.

Bing really deserves more credit, in my opinion. The results page is miles ahead of Google's, and the Rewards program gets you some neat stuff with time.

try going to the chrome settings and managing your extensions, and changing the new tab page

if managing the extensions didn't work: go to start menu > control panel > programs > uninstall a program and look for anything that unfamiliar, especially anything with "ad" or anything similar to the name of the site in the name
