I think IT might soon replace the postal service as the profession with the most murderous reputation.

I actually moved out of the country to get away from this kind of **** . I swear I'm not kidding. I had other reasons too, but the main one is getting away from an army of relatives/friends/etc.s constantly harassing me to fix their **** . And every single time, no matter how I sliced it, I was the bad guy.
I agree to fix it? They **** it up a week later and blame me because I "didn't fix it right".
I say no? They start guilt-tripping me about how they didn't get the education I did and I'm just being mean and selfish and blah blah blah. **** off. I'm 3000 KM away now. Fix your own **** !

why i love IT:
if it's for free, you just tell them how to fix it.
if your getting paid by the hour you can take forever and reinstall stuff with .bat files
if your paid by the service your still getting a ******** of money.
all while playing pokemon.

He mentioned something about browser hijacking, and I've been having an issue I can't seem to fix, tried generally everything, but i have this stupid home page and when I tried to change my homepage to bing, it keeps this one and opens bing in a new tab, literally can't get rid of it. Help?

my dad reads tons of **** , he has this computer nerd mode now where he reads tons on programming and all that. thing is, he sucks at doing everything else, can't use skype, doesn't know about bookmarks, googlemaps, googletranslate, nd other simple, yet, essential stuff.
this time he had problems with skype, i think it was that he couldn't site a message he had sent before, i showed him how to copy and paste, he then tried it but pressed the wrong place, he then told me "mousekill, you don't know anything" to which i tried taking the mouse from his hand to show him. when i did that he slapped my hand and took the mouse further away. i tried going for it again and then my mom grabs my hand. "let your father do it, he knows more"
left the room, never again try to help them with skype

My mother in law got her first laptop ever a few years ago, knows nothing about computers, she gets assistance from my sister in law and her husband. They also know very little about computers. I only get called over when nothing works. Whenever she has a router problem she just gets a new one, I didn't realize this was happening at first, till I saw a router in the trash. She constantly have viruses and issues, it turns out that she never did a restart or a shutdown, she just closed the lid putting it in sleep mode. Plus I think my in-laws uses her computer to download porn

After two years alter she diagnoses her problem is that she needs a new laptop, a few months ago she asked me to find her a new one at a reasonable price, I was looking for one when she comes over to tell us she just got a new laptop. She got a windows 8 laptop with the same specs as her windows 7 laptop. Things have been quiet, Im worried.

As a web programmer I can relate to this **** on a whole different level. I'll keep the businesses anonymous but I work for some very large, corporate websites where I do the front end work.

Something quiets working, it's my fault.
The hosting company lets viruses attack the server, it's my fault.
Other people think they can update my code themselves and break something it's my fault.
Customer forgets to pay hosting bill, it's my fault.
Graphics/logo looks ugly when I don't even do graphics, it's my fault.
Make desktop apps that natively aren't supported on phone when boss/customers didn't request that in the beginning, it's my fault.
Customer updates website on their own and breaks it, it's my fault.
Customers can't send emails out when I have nothing to do with their emails, it's my fault.
Customer changes ideas about projects after developing them, it's my fault.
Customers internet goes down and they can't access their website, it's my fault.
Customers don't clear cache after viewing updates on website and things look ****** up, it's my fault.

I have a question: How do you feel about the IT field? I am considering changing professions from accountant to programmer and am not sure if it's something I should pursue. I would love to conceptualize and build software (it's something I have always wanted to do), but the reason I chose something else was because I was worried about increasing outsourcing lowering compensation, and the speed at which everything you learn becomes outdated, which would mean constant relearning. Sure the starting salary for programming is great, but barring becoming upper management, is it worth it? I've heard many people say that it sucks, but also many who say that it's a good job. What is your take on this?
