Frodo and Bilbo are cousins. Due to intermarrying between 3 or 4 of the most famous families in Hobbiton and Bywater, they're actually first and second cousins, once removed either way. The genealogy is a little confusing.

Thats wrong, in the book it is pretty clear that Bilbo is Frodo's cousin. Its a weird so in the films they simply said he was Frodo's uncle.

Frodo still calls Bilbo "uncle", because of the huge age difference between them and due to the fact that Bilbo adopted Frodo. I have the book right here! :D (only) on my 3rd read-through.
