There's a Greek guy in my class at uni and we had to go into groups, assign ourselves job roles for a made up games company and research the average pay grade for each job role.

This is what the Greek guy wrote down for our salaries:
Harry: Cleaner, 3D Modeller - £21,000
Brian: Lawyer, Manager - £21,000
Charlie: Artist, Coder - £21,000

He said he was doing our salaries "the Greek way"
I told him this is why his country's seen better days

But that's not how it works in Greece at all.
#20 to #5 - anon (12/16/2015) [-]
No, they forgot to mention how no1 pays their taxes and buys pools.
User avatar #34 to #5 - alcantara (12/16/2015) [-]
It's a student, and they're using pounds sterling, thus I propose the following; £21,000 is the maximum to be made before student loan repaymenta at 9% of anything earned over £21,000 therefore the Greek is under-reporting salary in order to escape paying their debts.
User avatar #3 to #2 - eizujeil (12/15/2015) [-]
except his 'greek way' does not exist here, in greece. Take it from a guy whose been living there (and currently still is) for the last 8 years, we work the same way as every other established economy, with the difference that for some reason a majority of our population says thank you when we all get ****** by the government.
User avatar #7 to #3 - admiralen ONLINE (12/16/2015) [-]
You mean except for all the tax fraud committed by the greek people?
Or the people who retire at 55?
Or the 2 day work week?
#26 to #7 - firesky (12/16/2015) [-]
That's no greek only thing.
#36 to #26 - anon (12/16/2015) [-]
But it's a very Greek thing.
Especially tax evasion.
#41 to #36 - anon (12/16/2015) [-]
If it isn't a Greek thing, I don't know what else it would be.

Greece is known for tax evasion, 1 to 2 day work weeks, and overall laziness.

Yeah, I'll say it.
Because if refugees that are looking for a better life, are just going to other countries to rape people and rob them.

Nope, **** em'.
#37 to #26 - anon (12/16/2015) [-]
This is VERY Greek.
User avatar #25 to #7 - savvasp (12/16/2015) [-]
Actually you can retire at 35.
#38 to #25 - anon (12/16/2015) [-]
Can does not = should.

Greece has been terrible with math and logic, and are walking the road they are today, because of it.

Oops, silly me, if they could afford roads to walk on.
User avatar #42 to #38 - savvasp (12/17/2015) [-]
I never said they should though
#11 to #3 - anon (12/16/2015) [-]
y'all consider 15 hours a week "full-time"
i's no wonder Greece's economy is in the tank
User avatar #16 to #11 - eizujeil (12/16/2015) [-]
I normally don't respond to these type of scenarios, not your reply specifically but in general any topic when it comes to greece, but I just wanted to inform you that anyone who has told you 15 hr/s full time is pulling your leg, last job i worked during the summer had me for 10 hours with a 1 hour break working for 2 euro an hour, 7 days a week, now i know being a bartender / waiter is not a high profile job, but the hours to work to money ratio was a bit extreme even for me, and when i voiced my complaint the only response i got was 'Tough, if you dont like it, quit, theres always someone to fill the spot'.

The truth of the matter is this, there is a massive wage gap, the upper class tax evade and do other fraudulent activities but arent caught because they have the politicians in their pocket, the public education system is so ******* terrible, any intellectual parent will know to steer clear from them. Those that have made big bucks have retired whilst everyone else toils in the sand, the civil worker system is the most corrupt, basically hiring people because they have connections in the system and they do nothing but get paid, which leaves all the hard working mother ******* basically screwed as a bunch of ignant retards fan themselves with 100 euro bills.

Im not defending my country, i swear to **** if it wasnt illegal i would have killed many with my own bare hands as i hear them cry about how they dont make enough money for sitting at a desk doing nothing, or how daddy didn't buy them the car that they wanted in the right colour whilst i basically live with a 50 euro note a week, which trust me, doesnt get you much around here.

My main issue with people who talk about greece without knowing is that they dont understand what its like for those who try to work hard and make decent money, my dad's been unable to get work as an master electrician for the last 8 years simply because by law the company would have to pay him more than they would want due to his active list of skills, however thought that that was a smart law to ******* enact should have been fed to a meat grinder. My mother works 2 jobs and runs like mad and thats all to simply make ends meet, do you know how it feels to be told by your parents we might have to cut your tuition because we dont know if we will have enough for your brother to finish highschool? do you know how it feels to have every holiday or birthday filled with stress because your parents feel obligated to give you something like 'the good old days' but it feels wasted on you, ive lost friends simply because i would constantly turn down going out because it would cost too much.

I know this is a long one but i hope ive shared enough to give you all a perspective, let me be very clear, I dont give the highest of flying ***** about what anyone thinks about my country, even I dont like the ********** its become, i intend on leaving after i finish my military service because its traditions and values is all i care about and i will carry them to wherever i go, so for all i care, the country can burn to the ground, maybe then it might be able to build itself back up properly.

And AnomynousUser, no they pinch our balls to make sure we dont even get hard, nice avatar btw.

2 euros an hour ???

is that even legal ?
I mean I got paid 12 euros an hour to mow the communal lawns for 6 months, and it was no genius job. they didnt even ask for a degree
User avatar #28 to #27 - arreatface (12/16/2015) [-]
I have some stories about this job too if someone is interested

like that one interview where I had to prove my experience and qualifications at mowing lawns.

To agree with what eizujeil said as well. No idea where people get their facts here. Greece is inherently a tourism based economy, this means that we have "seasons" ie, times when we can make money and times we cant. we have usually may to September to make the majority of money we will have to use all year. Last summer I worked at a dive resort, i worked from 7 am till 9 pm every day (and im really not kidding you here) weekends and holidays included and got 500 Euros a month. 500, for a technical position such as teaching scuba. ***** ****** yo.
User avatar #21 to #16 - abesimpson (12/16/2015) [-]
For some reason people think that other countries don't work atleast 40 hours a week or more.

Anywhere you go people work an average o 8 hours a day or even more.
#4 to #3 - selfdenyingbeggar (12/15/2015) [-]
Greece voted to get out of the EU. It's not the people's fault that the US and EU have your leaders grabbed by the balls.

#9 to #3 - thesergent (12/16/2015) [-]
you mean like in Quebec?
#13 to #2 - hongkonglongdong (12/16/2015) [-]
Yeah. If you're Communist (as I'm assuming this guy's pretending to be) you should pay by contribution. Obviously, the coder's going to be doing most of the work, so you pay him for it. The cleaner will do lots too, but less, and you pay him for that. The lawyer won't do much, but when he does you pay him for his contribution (and if it's a big contribution, it'll be a big amount of money). And in the end you don't have a profit, because everyone's been paid the sum total of their work.

Only idiots think Communism is about totally equal pay.
User avatar #32 to #13 - Sethorein (12/16/2015) [-]
How do you quantify contribution?
User avatar #14 to #13 - crowcolin (12/16/2015) [-]
It's pretty obvious that the wages outlined above are socialist... The two are not the same. The rest of your statement, I have no comment.
#15 to #14 - hongkonglongdong (12/16/2015) [-]
No, they aren't the same, but the less communist you get the further from those above wages you get. Like left wing market anarchists aren't going to mandate totally equal pay. Also, Communism is the most popular socialist movement in Greece IIRC.
User avatar #24 to #15 - jdrinfantry (12/16/2015) [-]
you dont remember correctly
The coalition of the radical left (Greeces biggest leftwing political party) is a democratic socialist party.
When I think of communism, I think of the USSR, they practically designed the communism that we know today. There's no point in denying that, or trying to point at smaller different countries that took the ideology upon themselves and adapted in different ways such as being paid in contribution.

Meet a greek expat in Mexico.
He said "Im Mexico if you work you're poor but at least you eat. In Greece not"
User avatar #8 - sgtmajjohnson (12/16/2015) [-]
Greeks voted for whoever would keep their benefits and early retirement flowing while their economy collapsed under the strain, so this is completely true, even though this was avoidable.
User avatar #29 to #8 - jewishcommunazi (12/16/2015) [-]
