Contrary to what people believe, we're all still human on the internet. Sure, being here allows us to depersonalize things and therefore become more assholish and more resistant to things like gore, but that's just because everything here is a picture on a screen. In reality, if we saw mutilated bodies, if we smelled death or heard someone's suffering in person, we would be horrified. In reality, we are just human beings like everyone else. And humans are pretty good people at heart, even if it may not seem like it. This is just such an occasion. Voice chat allows people to be one sense closer to the other person. By communicating with voices, the depersonalization of the computer was severely reduced, and when he pretended to be beaten, it was much more like they actually just saw a fellow human being getting beaten than anything else, and their human sympathies kicked in. They couldn't help the "girl" by stopping her brother, they couldn't stop what was happening, so the least they can do is try and make her happy the only way they can.

Just food for thought. Humans are pretty nice, regardless what media/internet/others tell you.

it just seems that older people are on hte PC, as it cmae first, and younger kids are on hte xbox. im only 18, and my first FPS was COD1... but little kids are frightened away from PC by the upkeep (dusting) and they think you have to upgrade it every 40 days, and it requires a sodering iron, and specility tools!
